Tennessee in play?
A co-worker and friend of mine who is very active in the local Republican Party here in west Tennessee came back from a big meeting of the local GOP today and there is genuine worry based on internal numbers and early voting data that McCain is not performing nearly as well as the published polls are showing and the race is actually fairly tight. I wouldn't have believed this given earlier numbers, but now that I hear states like Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina and even Louisiana are competitive, I see no reason Tennessee shouldn't be.

1. I think Obama will do better than expected, but Tennessee is not in play. Its probably the
ONLY state in the union that isn't. Well, maybe Kentucky.

8. I'd probably put Idaho, Nebraska, Utah, Wyoming and Oklahoma before that.

Ofc. Nebraska could possible give Obama one district EV - but as a state its probably one of the two last states expected to go blue.

Alabama is also more out of reach than Tennessee, it seems.

But no, its not likely to happen all the same. But hey, if you can work to make us wrong.. :)

2. I hope you are right.
I do sense that it could break just that way. Thanks for this encouraging word from TN.

3. I was pleasantly surprised last week when I went to Franklin TN for some shopping.

Had dreaded entering the "land of the Repug" because I figured there'd be a sea of McCain signs slapping me in the face the entire trip.

I decided to count the yard signs I passed in Williamson Co. (one of the reddest counties in the state, & the wealthiest). By the time I got to my destination the count was 12 Obama (3 large ones) to 5 McCain (1 large one). This was truly shocking, in a good way. Granted, I was just on the southwest side of the county, but still, it's encouraging.

This is a real indication that TN might have hope of becoming at least LAVENDER if not out right blue. My mother tells me that Chattanooga is getting bluer. Now if Upper East TN goes our way, then THAT'S progress!!!

4. Nashville and Memphis are decidedly Democrat

In fact, a slight majority of West and Middle Tennessee is. If we can trim down the gigantic deficit in East Tennessee....

I know I know, false hope given where I am. But I'm not giving up on it. I've put in too much hard work not to.

9. Keep working

A lot of this red/blue state business is probably, to a degree, influenced by a common conception of what kind of place people live in. If noone works to make the numbers move, noone will expect them to and act accordingly. Be it not voting or even going with the flow.

People in a swing state are probably more inclined to consider if there was a reason to change.

This is purely pulled from my own behind though.

What I am trying to say is that no matter the result, I am certain your hard work has long term dividends.
