Barack Obama is running...

My neighbor came over the other day and shared a very up lifting piece about this election and Senator Barack Obama. He said he heard it on the local NPR radio station...

“Rosa sat…so Martin could walk
Martin walked…so Barack could run
Barack is running…so our children can fly!”

I loved it because it is so true, but the story of America did not start with Rosa....there have been many heroes during our 230+ years as a nation….men and women of every race, religion, national origin and yes political beliefs. Our history is the story of the greatness that is America….

Ben, Tom and George fought…so Lewis and Clark could explore
Lewis and Clark explored…but needed Sacagawea to survive

Harriet Tubman ran the “railroad”…so Lincoln’s dream would live
Admiral David Farragut ruled the sea…so the Union could be preserved
Chief Joseph made peace…so the Union could grow

These great American’s laid the groundwork for freedom and liberty

Freedom and Liberty are alive but can not be taken for granted.

Eleanor listened to Anne…so the rest would not forget
Albert thought and experimented…to advance science for the cause
Greenburg and Robinson swung for the fences …so Roberto could steal a base
Jim Thorpe ran with abandon…So Ernie could break the barriers
Bernstein composed and directed…so the likes of Yo Yo Ma could make the cello sing
Henry David Thoreau crafted great words…so Amy Tan could write
Chavez organized…so every “Joe the Plumber” could get a fair wage
Lori Piestawa served…so Ellen Ochoa could go to space…and Jerry Yang could Yahoo!

And yes…
Rosa sat…so Martin could walk
Martin walked…so Barack could run
Barack is running…so our all of our children can fly!

Barack Obama is running for every American child…those Native American children and the African American Children, the Chinese American, Irish American and Mexican American…all American children regardless of heritage.
Barack Obama is running for those Christian American and Jewish American children as well as those Muslim American children and those American children of any and every faith.

Senator Barack Obama is running so all of our children and grandchildren can not just fly…but given the chance, can soar….soar with the eagles over this great land.

That is what this election is about and what it can mean for America.

If you have not yet voted...Please do, and get a friend to vote too!

I do some home brewing. Being in Arizona though I need to wait until November to make sure the temperature allows the fermentation to take. So...I will be putting up some soon.

11. DH has done some

not so much lately. but we have hops growing in our yard. we decommissioned the beer fridge a couple years ago, so we don't have a place for the kegs right now. soon.
mostly i let other people do the brewing. chicago is still a beer city, full of microbrewers and beer bars. why go to all that trouble when you can go to the goose island brewpub and have any one of a dozen fresh beers?
