The Anxiety of the Unknown...
There is always fear in the unknown. We don't really know how this election will turn out. And neither does the other side.

We are experiencing the anxiety that we have experienced in previous elections. We fear that this election may be stolen also. We fear that the lies and deception of the Republicans will once again fool just enough voters to sway it the other way by Tuesday. We want to believe that this time it will be different. But we have been bitten twice already and it is not easy to forget those experiences.

However, this time around, the other side is experiencing an anxiety and fear that they have not seen in quite some time. They see the polls. They tell themselves that they have Rush and Sean and talk radio and the means and strategy to get their folks to the polls on election day. But they hear and see the numbers broadcast on the television. They do not only fear they will lose, they fear they will be slaughtered like sheep and that there will be little left of their herd after this election. They fear for their survival.

If you think the fear and anxiety is bad on our side, the other side is ten times as bad. They are desperate. They will try anything. They have done their damnedest to "define" Barack Obama and it isn't working. This scares them as much as anything. Their strategy no longer works. They have no more bullets. And they are more scared than you about this election. If they lose, their Party may not survive in its present form. It will split right down the middle into a coalition that may take years or decades to repair?

1. So. I don't feel sorry for them.
They deserve this. But I do appreciate your thoughts. They serve as a warning, yes. They WILL try anything. But ya know what? After they lose (fingers crossed) they'll be better people for it. Or maybe not. Maybe they will just spend the next 4 years making all of us miserable with their uncooperation.
Actually their party had already split. And that was the problem. The good ole Republicans got drowned out by the goddamn neocons.

2. Agreed... but they are very dangerous when cornered
Unlike us, they have no desire at all to "work together". I just hope that Obama realizes that.

3. But why should they feel "cornered" ??
I don't think anyone here wishes to do them any harm. We want them to live in the same country that we do - one of peace and prosperity and tolerance. Why should they feel threatened by such ideas??

It's a very deep question. Why do they feel defensive about ideas that are absolutely harmless to them and which could, possibly, make them happier and more productive citizens??

Personally, and that is really all whom I can speak for, I do not feel ill-will toward the Republicans, quite the contrary, I feel sympathy and the desire to educate them. Many of their thoughts are borne of ignorance, not stupidity. There is a difference.

5. Well, when I say "they" I mean the real elite
The moneyed interests call the shots in the republican party. They get regular people to agree with them through wedge issues and propaganda, such as limpballs and FAUX news. But you know all that. You're an old timer here, as am I.

So,to answer your question, it is the elites who feel cornered. They, in turn, "persuade" enough average Americans to feel threatened, resentful, or angry. They do this through the corporate media. Since it is all based on propaganda, it is difficult to argue against. Most progressives are still behaving as though we are fighting on a level playing field, and as though truth matters.

I realize that you already know most of this, if not all of it and then some. But it helps to get it off my chest.

And, just to throw a wild pitch here.. who cares? We're gonna win!!!!!!!!!

Okay, it's late on Halloween night and I've had a couple. Sue me. I feel optimistic.:hi:

7. I have no doubt they're miserable.
I have little sympathy for them because they're also responsible. Their party has outlived its usefulness by about 28 years. The GOP is now a dire threat to democracy and the Constitution. I hope it self-destructs.

Thanks, though, for trying to make me feel better.

The United States is a LIBERAL Country.
