I suspect Obama will win on Tuesday. If he DOESN'T, I'm through. I am dropping out and moving on.
I feel very hopefully optimistic that Barack Obama is going to have the title "president elect" added to his name come Tuesday.

If the unthinkable happens, and John McCain wins....that's it. I'm done. I am a lifelong Democrat who has volunteered for every presidential election in some form or fashion since I was too young to vote (17) back in 1980. I invested an enormous amount of time and money in particular in 2000 and 2004. I haven't been able to spend as much time this year since I am back in grad school full time and working part time, but I have volunteered a bit and I have written some healthy checks to the campaign.

If we lose this(and again...I don't think we WILL lose, but you have to think about the "what ifs")I simply can't take it any more. My political soul and will will be broken.

If we have another 4 to 8 years of Republican rule in this country, we're going to hell in a handbasket, and probably at a more accelerated rate than what we've seen over the last 8 years.
If we're saddled with McCain and Palin, from Nov. 5 on out, it's going to be all about me. What's going to be best for me, and screw everyone else. Because I'll tell you what...if that's going to be the mindset of the government for the last 8 years and the next 4 in this country, then damnit...I'm going to beat the motherfuckers at their own game.

I've held on since 2004 thinking "surely we'll have a shot in 2008". If we come up on the short end of the stick, I'm convinced it's over for us Democrats. If we can't win after 8 years of disastrous Bushian government, then we CAN'T win. I'll be done trying. I sure as hell won't become a Republican. I'll just refuse to participate anymore. Why would I expend so much energy, emotion and money, only to walk away without even a consolation prize?

So there....I got that rant off my chest. But I remain very optimistic that it won't come to that.

1. work as hard as you can. if we cant win this time
it may be a long time before we can ever win the presidency. everything favors us this time. the country hates bush, 80% say the country is going in the wrong direction, the economy is in recession, and people are tired of war.

if we cant win now, when can we win? the best thing is to work our butts off now and MAKE IT HAPPEN.

2. I Posted This This morning. Everything Is Riding On This Election.

Imagine:

Is Obama Wins;
All future elections could be done by countable, paper ballots. I'm sure an accurate, reliable and accountable system could easily be developed in 4 years which would be mandatory for all states.

Imagine:
The real will of the people decided Democratically and honestly for all future U.S. elections.

Now Imagine:
The Republican "Powers That Be" know that this is their very last chance to continue to steal our elections and our country.
THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GO DOWN EASY!

You are right. If we lose this one, our rigged elections will continue into infinitum.

Vote!

3. If the unthinkable happens, all hell will break loose
and I don't just mean in riots or those kind of ways. I mean that for the first time, people would not just be talking about forming a new country in the Northeast or the West, but they'd actually start planning to do exactly that...and start taking steps. It would be the only thing left to do.

Let's hope the unthinkable doesn't even come close to happening. A landslide victory on Tuesday would be nice.

5.  Not me
If he loses, "no justice, no peace."

That does NOT mean violence. That does mean refusal to accept the authority and legitimacy of the "President."

6. If we can't win this year...we never win.....all that will be left is the systematic
destruction of what is left of the middle class. I won't stay here.

7. "I won't stay here." I'll stay here, but I'll be the first person to join a movement
to start a new country in the Northeast. I like it here too much to leave.

8. I hope 2008 proves that a non-Southern Democrat can win the presidency
If we don't win this time, after 8 years of Bush, we would really have to examine whether it's possible for a non-Southern Democrat to win the WH. In the modern era of politics (post-1960s), we've just had Carter and Clinton, both of whom appealed to the Southern cracker personality to a certain extent. We Democrats would unfortunately need to examine a future need to crutch ourselves with a Southerner to paint the electoral map the way it needs to be to win. I hope it doesn't come to that point - nothing against the South (I'm a southerner myself) but I wish our party to have more avenues to victory than that.

9. Agreement here.
Stevens and Ginsburg probably won't make it another four years. If McCain wins, they'll end-up replaced by Scalia clones.

Even if we win in 2012, 2016, 2020, etc etc.. the GOP's court goons will strike-down whatever we pass that they don't like. If we lose this year, the Supreme Court is likely lost for a generation.

If we lose, like Kzoo says, it's all about me, and about protecting my family from the horrible downslope that our nation will face in such a situation.

10. If we don't win, it will be due to MASSIVE cheating.
And if that happens, our planned 2010 move to BC will just be moved up to early 2009. We are gettin' the hell out of Dodge if McCain "wins" the election.

12. Well, Sidney J. Mussbburger, either way, we'll be getting rid of Norvile Barnes from the White House
Noticed your screen name. The Hudsucker Proxy is one of my favorite films. I've contended for the last 8 years that George Bush is the Republican Party's answer to Norvile Barnes.
