Do you think that Sarah Palin has a future as a 'star' of the GOP, or was she a 15-min. wonder who |
|
will slink off into the shadows of ignominy, shunned by the party that tried to pawn her off on us, recognized as a failed Hail Mary pass that McCain threw in desperation but that no one wanted to catch?
I believe she has high aspirations for herself and Ambition with a capital "A." However, I'm hoping that once the Republicans are roundly trounced on a national scale (which I hope and pray will happen on Tuesday), they will realize how ridiculous a choice she was and will look elsewhere for their next saviour.
I'm curious: what do you all think?

On the other hand, if they ARE stupid enough to try and groom this halfwit for higher office, it'll just mean a clear Dem win for whoever she runs against.

My guess is that as she sees her moment of fame slipping away, she will do and say increasingly outrageous things in order to stay in the headlines. It ain't gonna be pretty ...

They don't like liars, so Sarah's future in Alaskan politics may be going the way of Ted Stevens'. Or so we can hope.

That's the contractor who built the Wasilla sports center, provided Ted Stevens with his free home upgrade that's about to land him in the can, and finally upgraded the Palin house in much the same way. Perhaps Churchy Spice can share a cell block with Stevens and Duke Cunningham. IMHO, this is going to be THE big issue that ultimately nails her.

55. I agree, she'll be both. And if we're lucky she'll be the wedge that finally breaks the Rethug party |
|
into two pieces - permanently.
The religious right LOVES her. She's not going away anytime soon for this group. The money Rethugs and the intelligentsia of the party, must be getting pretty wary of her would be my guess. She's gone off the reservation too many times already in her short candidacy. They recognize and understand Sarah Palin's type of republicanism as dangerous imho. They know that if she were to ever gain real power, she would be as toxic for them and their plans, as any Dem. More so since she would "own" the Rethug label as she spread her poison.
I definitely see her star rising - prepare to see her on Fox a LOT. But even as that happens I would bet that the Sarah Palin cringe factor also rises demonstrably for many, many other Republicans.
The wild card in all of this will be how Alaska handles her ethics problems. If they go after her illegal activities all bets are off on how she evolves into a national figure.

|
"Palin was a hugely popular True Believer in the Republican cause, but she was saddled with a RINO at the top of the ticket at a a time when no Republican could have won anyway, due to Jorge's unpopularity. Now that Obama's been doing all these horrible liberal things that we've been screaming and screaming and SCREAMING about for the last four years, the time is right for her to emerge from the wilderness to lead us to victory".
I expect this message to be amplified through the right-wing echo chamber and from there to filter into the Republican-controlled "mainstream" media. Whether it'll do her any good remains to be seen, though.

I predict she gets a stink as political pundit on faux, but her voice grates on the nerves of her coworkers and producers so, that she transfers out of the station and does a political/celebrity outdoor sportswoman show. Sarah exercises the 2nd and other amendments. She can show how important those amendments are to her and real amurkins like her. Cheney and Scalia will be her first guests as they go hunting.

Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 10:25 AM by Demeter
If there is any GOP left that isn't Fundie, she will be cast on the trash pile of history.
If the Fundies are the only members left in the GOP after this (which is entirely possible), they will try to run her, which should finish the party brand off entirely next cycle.
If there's any justice, she will be too busy breaking rocks or making license plates to be a further nuisance.

63. Alaskans worth their salt will impeach her in 2009. I'd donate to that. Would you? |

68. They think she's a star (and so does the MSM), so it doesn't matter what we think |
|
There will be a big push for Palin/Obama in 2012. Her every indiscretion will be shrugged of as a non-issue.

74. Failed VP candidates don't usually get very far |
|
...this was pointed out last night on Keith or Rachel (can't remember which one, too much MSNBC, everything is bleeding together now). One of the guests discussed the fact that a losing VP candidate has never been able to make a go of a presidential nomination later - Edwards, Liberman, Ferraro, etc. There are certain segments of the GOP that love her but she is a very polarizing candidate within her own party - I doubt that she would be viewed as "electable" during the GOP primaries.

84. I don't see her fading into obscurity, she's already demonstrated that |
|
she can get crowds of adoring fans out in droves. I'll bet we see her pop up again but this time on a radical third party ticket. http://www.laprogressive.com/

85. I think that she's going to end up in jail. She's even more corrupt than Ted Stevens. |
|
The Republican Party of Alaska despises her and the Democrats there can't wait to get to work on her. She's filthy dirty. That house? The illegal purchases. Kickbacks, graft, corruption. She's in big trouble.

|
now! She really shot herself in the mukluks, if you ask me.

86. I'd love to never have to worry about her again but I think she'll be |
|
around for a while.
The upcoming "battle for the soul of the GOP" won't be very interesting. There may be a lot of people in that party who would love to dump the fundies but they won't get far. The fundies ARE the Republican party.
I've posted this before and I'll do it again: I think that Palin has a shot at the nom in 2012. If Obama is doing well I don't see any GOPer volunteering to get his ass beat. Obama is pretty formidable now: as a popular incumbent President he'll be a terrifying candidate. The GOP can't dump the fundies and survive. They might as well toss them some red meat in the form of a Palin/some other nut ticket. She'd get massacred (the libertarians would bolt) but the GOP would live to fight another day with their base intact and somewhat thankful for the opportunity of fighting a lost cause.

87. In two months, she'll release her autobiography . . . |
|
.. . which no one will buy. Then she'll put out a study Bible, which no one will buy either. Finally, she'll release a gospel album of her favorite hymns, which she'll hawk on HSN. 4 people will buy that, and ask for refunds.
