Portland kid trick-or-treats as a ballot box.
The Oregonian had this great picture in this morning's paper.

In case you can't read it, here's the text from the caption:

Ten-year-old Matthew Gilbert was so interested in this year’s presidential election, he decided to dress as a ballot box for Halloween and canvass his Northeast Portland neighborhood. People could show their preference by dropping a treat into one slot for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama or another slot for Republican Sen. John McCain. Gilbert, a fourth-grader at Irvington Elementary, came up with 137 pieces for Obama, 21 for McCain, 1 write-in for Ralph Nader, and a 5 percent margin of error for treats eaten along the way. But he’s the ultimate winner.

I thought it was pretty cool.

4. All right! NCLB aside, this young man's creativity and intelligence
does Oregon proud. Good for him--and awfully glad NE Portlanders went for Obama by a "candyslide".

9. It's ironic that his voting method is more secure than our current real voting methods.

I wonder if everyone gave him one piece of candy or if Obama supporters stuffed the ballot box?

Hmm. Cute idea.
