Mr blm just called - his line to vote is FOUR HOURS LONG in NC. |
|
And, he said it's plain to see that 80% of the line ain't voting for McCain. Folks are being fairly festive about being in line for so long.
Plenty of candy being passed about. And the weather is GREAT here today... no need for warm cookies. heh
Mr blm now works in Chapel Hill so he HAD to vote today in Charlotte where we still have our house, or not at all.
For added laughs, McClatchy called him on Thursday, they needed to know how he did the election maps. This is the first election in 10 years that he isn't working for Knight-Ridder.

Last week at the Walnut Creek Mall. It was great. The line inside was very long but, I voted curbside because I have a fractured pelvis. Took about 15 minutes. That's the way voting should be!!
 for Mr. blm

3. K&R for the voter suppression file. |
|
These long lines do constitute a kind of "poll tax" because folks need to give up hours of work (and income) just to be able to vote.

until we sell our house, so, he's had to give up some time he should be relaxing here with our little girl. We're going to go visit him in line. He can relax better when President Obama is sworn in.

We need to reform our voting system and this needs part of the new administration's agenda.

5. Absentee is the way to go |
|
No lines, no chads, no voter machines switching votes, and no RNC con artists challenging people.
It's absurd that in this 21st century we're still using 19th century technology to vote.

12. Not everywhere. For one thing some states show your party affiliation on the return envelope, |
|
so if you're a Dem it is extremely dangerous to vote absentee. I've heard other reasons absentee is no good, but cannot remember them right now, but not being able to prove that the vote actually got there is one.
Most advise you to take your absentee ballot to your polling place and drop it off, that that is the safest way to vote overall. Then it's a paper ballot and hand delivered.

14. Sounds good to me- let people take their ballot home and |
|
drop it back off at the polling place. Why make people wait hours while others ponder their decision for 5 minutes in a voting booth???

Long lines and other issues aside, the enthusiasm is unmistakable and awesome. :)

10. I voted early in '04--about an hour's wait. Decided to never again do |
|
that, as I live in a tiny precinct that's never been known for having lines. (Fewer than 900 voters, I think, and there's never 100% turnout.) It's nice because I can walk through a park to my voting place.

11. In 04 it was an 1 1/2 hr. wait for us. |
|
They won't be able to steal NC from Dems this time. Too many are watching now. And Dean has REALLY helped strengthen the party and its infrastructure here.
