Don't know if this is typical, but my favorite GenYer says old people vote early.
Like those Early Bird dinner specials, I guess?

I don't know if this would be a clue as to why we're seeing reports (true or not) that the youngest demographic is not voting in numbers as expected yet.

She, and everyone she knows who is near her age, are totally committed to Obama. Some have suspended their lives to take positions of responsibility in various states.

She says she wants to vote on a historic day, not some day before. She envisions being in line with others her age, in kind of a party atmosphere, everyone talking and Twittering, etc.

Again, don't know if this is typical, or just one personal view.

1. The lines may be longer then..

..is the only problem.

Are they going to be patient enough to wait and wait and wait in line? Guess we'll find out.

20. Why vote early when you can vote late?
The low percentage of young voters compared to 2004 may be a result of overwhelming turn-out among older, AA voters, and not because of a reduced turn-out among young voters.

2. All my friends are voting on the 4th for Barack.
We're all 18-20. We're just too lazy to get our mail-in ballots, so... to the 4th!

3. I voted early, and noticed only one person voting that I thought was under 30.
And that was during a two hour wait.

Most of the people I saw voting appeared to be 50 or over.

5. Younger folks usually vote on election day.
Despite what was reported in 2004, there were a lot of young people voting that year. More than previous elections. This year shouldn't be that much different, except even more will come out this time.

9. Probably some elderly think that's the way it's been done and should be done --
on the day! I'm kind of a traditionalist myself, and voted early for the first time this year. I worry that there are just too many of us Americans now to vote on one day.

17. For all the talk of digital connectedness, I think young people's craving
for face-to-face reality is greater than ever. (Especially now that it's in shorter supply!)

10. my 80 year old mom voted early because she expected extremely long lines on Tues and knew that would
be a problem for her. She said there were lines when she voted, but it only took her about 1/2 an hour all told. Perhaps other seniors are also concerned about the stamina needed to survive multi-hour long lines and that is why they are voting early?
Mom had to give a reason for early voting (like being out of town on election day, etc), and she told the poll worker it was because "I'm eighty"

12. I love it! Because "I'm eighty." I saw a story about 100 year olds in long lines --
a tribute to their stamina, for sure. But I thought maybe a hundred-plus might get a pass to the front of the line!

Anyone who has lived 100 years should get taken to the head of the line!

15. that's true..

I talked to a woman today who wanted to vote but wasn't going to because she was afraid to stand in line. I gave her all kinds of suggestions how she might get around that, or get help, but .... she probably won't vote.

14. Makes sense. Why would people who are voting for the first or second time...
know about early voting?

22. My parents are 75, and they voted early for Obama.
They always vote early. They both have health problems, like arthritis in their knees, that make standing in line for a long time uncomfortable.
