Despite polls showing Obama ahead, many of his supporters fear a McCain win

WASHINGTON — Elizabeth Knudson is a 68-year-old retired teacher who once served in the Peace Corps in Brazil, so she knows a thing or two about being tough and maintaining a positive attitude.

And yet the Minnesota woman, a Barack Obama supporter, is desperately nervous about Tuesday's election, fearful the polls are inaccurate and Republican John McCain might eke out a narrow win.

"Oh, I worry," Knudson said Saturday in an interview from her home in the tiny village of Hartland, Minn., population 228. "I think the polls make people complacent so that they don't think they need to bother to go out and vote, and I'm not convinced the polls are even accurate."
