123 Houses later in Michele Bachmann's district , I end the day with Howard Dean
I went to the Union Hall at 9:18 to get my assignment. I was 3 minutes late because I stopped for coffee. We listened to the speakers, and I got my packet of addresses and brochures. I was off and knocked on my first house by 10. By 2 I had run out of materials. So it was back to the Union Hall to pick up brochures, and more addresses. El Tinklenberg was there, I think he had just spoken before I got there. I picked up what I needed and it was back to finish the first set of addresses. A quick 20 minute stop for lunch and then on to the second set of addresses. By 5:00 I had knocked on at least 123 doors. My feet hurt, my legs hurt. But Howard Dean is scheduled to be at Democratic headquarters at 5:30. So I run home, quick bathroom break and grab the camera.

Howard was just walking in as I drove by. The place was packed, at least 175 people. I squeezed in the back. My legs hurt worse. The Chair of the Minnesota Democratic Party talked about Coleman trying to blame the law suit that was just filed against him, relating to a $75,000 payment to Coleman, on Al Franken.

Howard steps up. I raise my camera high and snap some pictures. I will post later, when I find the cord to link the camera to the computer. He talks about how important it is that Barak Obama, Al Franken, and El Tinklenberg win. He talks about how he doesn't make any difference any more, it's only the doorknockers and phone callers who make a difference. He talks about the children needing health care, who need us to be out there working.

And now I'm home, my feet are up, a beverage is at my side. And I am tired. And what a good tired it is.

10. It was a primarily a list of democrats or people the listmakers thought would
vote for democrats. Most people were positive or noncommittal. A few were VERY enthusiastic. One woman said, "I'm voting! My son is in college democrats and he's voting. My husband is voting. My daughter is in law school and is voting. Thank you so much for volunteering!" Only two were remotely negative. One woman wouldn't open the door and one man said, "I'd never vote for them." One other man politely said, "I'm a republican." One woman said, "I'm not voting." I asked her why and she said she didn't like either of the two presidential candidates. I urged her to vote in the down ballot races.

I felt especially good about the low-income townhouses I knocked at. Every door there was answered, one my a couple who couldn't vote--the previous tenants had moved." One was a African-American woman who said, "We are voting for Obama." I made sure she knew when and where to vote. Another was an immigrant who had recently got citizenship. He thanked me for coming and telling him where to vote.

4. Thank you.
I live not too far away from Bachmann territory. Both my sisters live there. I have hopes this year of seeing my little sister vote the correct way. My older sister will likely not vote, but her husband is hopeless. A right wing, hate radio listening, guy that will vote against his own best interest, because the morans on the radio tell him what to do.

9. The more you give, the more you get
I've seen it in organizations, my Meetinghouse, and in political races. When I've busted my ass for a candidate, the victory is sweeter. Enjoy!

14. You've done a lot - and not just today
Thank you for all that you've done - I know from your posts how much defeating Bachmann means to you - I want her out too.

That's very cool that Howard was here today. We were talking the other day at Packetland about how much credit he deserves for the 50 State Strategy.

23. Thank you so much. The reason I post is because so many people contributed to this effort.

I want people to know, their contributions are making a difference, and we in the district are so grateful.

This race does mean so much to me. It is hard to explain. But her stridency about issues such as gay rights, protecting the environment, deeming those who disagree as unAmerican make it so hard to say that she is the representative from my district. If I do everything I can maybe she won't be, and if not at least I will be able to say, I did all I can.

I'm really a novice with this stuff- all I know is on photobucket they have image code for each photo I upload. I just copy the code and put it in the body of a post and the photo shows up.

Kudos on all you did today by the way. :yourock:
