(Sorry for the quality)
Saw this on the way out of town today. Its airbrushed on wood and the picture doesn't do it justice. Its has amazing quality and detail to it. The head looks real and the "O" logo looks like its popping off the wood (3D looking). I'll be back in town on Tuesday and have time to get out of the car to take a good picture of it.
My first thought was "Holy crap, thats amazing". Then I got to thinking though. That picture was taken right in the heart of our area's 'hood' (Thats the politest way I can think of to say it). Right across the street, like most poverty stricken areas have, was a run down store where you can always see the locals gathering to sit around and talk. I'm assuming the artist was actually a resident of the house (which is one of the nicest ones in the area).
The question then arrived in my head, "How can a guy with that amount of talent with an airbrush be stuck in an area like that?" Theres a university less than 2 miles away and a community college less than 5 miles away. Why isn't he on the way to, or already have, a degree in an applied art like I'm doing? Even auto painting?
10 billion dollars a month in Iraq, and theres a guy with a tremendous amount of talent who
seems to not even be able to get out of the hood. Even if thats not the case with him, I know there is a hundred more for everyone of him who that is the case for. Is this really what America has come to?
Hope is on the horizon though, and we can't let it slip away.
