Should we take cookies and bottled water to our local polling places to give out on Tuesday? |
If the lines will be as long as people are predicting folks could use a little snack while waiting in line...? What do y'all think?

18. I was thinking the same thing. Chairs -- great idea. |
We won't need them here, though -- We all vote by mail or completed ballot drop-off.

2. Offer to stand in for those who have to go to the bathroom. |
Older people can't hold it as good as younger and even the younger ones might want a potty break. Put on some kind of identifying hat or jacket that shows you're a stand-in for potty breaks.

3. Check with your Obama office. |
We donated a bunch of bottled water, juice, and snacks today for volunteers, but I think we may also hand some out to people waiting in line on Tuesday. I'd bet your local Obama office has a plan for this.

8. the local office has plans for Cville I bet, but I'm out in a rural district... |
I'll bring a couple bags of Halloween miniature chocolate bars and maybe some boxes of Little Debbies - that way each serving is individually wrapped. And a big bag of plastic cups so folks can grab a glass of water from the water fountain.

snacks, water, chairs (as mentioned), umbrellas, clipboards (in case people can fill out any forms in line), coloring books and crayons to keep kids busy, music, ANYTHING!!! Don't let anyone leave that polling place without voting! Go armed with phone numbers for your local Obama office, so you can help people call if there's a problem.

Cookies and water for the high Democrat areas. "Man, that line is going to take hours to get through." to high Republican areas.

17. Just be careful - nothing of value |
It is perfectly OK to hand out water. However, be a little careful of handing out anything of value, which might cause some asshole to challenge a voter. States typically have laws prohibiting giving gifts to voters. In the mid-1700s, James Madison lost his first election because he didn't buy rounds of alcohol for all of the voters, unlike his opponent.

22. Just don't call them "Yes Wepecan" when you hand them out. |
That's bound to initiate claims of an attempt to influence votes.

24. From our local Obama offices, people have been assigned |
to be "comfort" captains. In addition to taking care of food for volunteers, one of their jobs is to take food and water to polling places if the lines are long. At least there's no sign of cold or wet weather, which will help keep people waiting. 67 and sunny in Detroit in November!
