It was the first battle to take place during the civil war. There was a followup in 1862. Both battles were won by the confederacy. Strategy during the war Monassas was a major Rail hub and despite the two confederate victories, it was mostly occupied by Union forces as the confederates found it hard to leave manpower to protect it. The union forces would just walk into town and take it back over when the confederate forces were elsewhere.
I just find the historical parallel to be really interesting.
