IMPORTANT: Expect some funky behavior for an hour after clocks change tonight.
As you probably know, tonight is the end of daylight savings time. At 2am ET, the clocks will change back to 1am. Here on DU, that means there is going to be an hour of odd behavior. Basically, our software will think that we are going through the same hour twice.

Timestamps on messages posted during the hour after clocks change will show an "older" time than some of the messages posted in the hour before clocks change. So posts aren't going to kick all the way to the top of forums for that hour.

We apologize for the inconvenience. It will sort itself out relatively quickly.

1. here in the IT world we call it "overwriting data"
which is why we let all systems sit in reset for an hour before bringing them back up :D

That would set a new record for brevity.

Oh...you're talking about the technology.

Never mind.

The time change in either direction always seems a bit odd here...

It takes the board awhile to get sorted out...

18. I always loved time travel
Can they do it so that instead of just one hour, we could set the clocks back to November 6, 2000? Or ahead to January 20, 2009?

25. As long as we are ready for the "great crash" that's going to
occur here on DU on Tuesday when everyone tries to log on and post at the same time. The servers are going to need to be replaced Wednesday morning if it gets as busy as we think it will.

29. And just how am I supposed to determine the difference between
the upcoming 'funky behavior' due to the time change, and the otherwise quite common 'funky behavior' that pervades DU most nights about that time?

33. Meh - you ought to see what happened to people with GMT set as our time zone
This happened at 2am GMT (ie 10pm EDT, 9PM EST) - posts had been showing on my screen with the proper time stamp, and then post timestamps went back an hour, so the forum still looks like this:

Now, our clocks changed last week - so no-one should have been making any adjustment to any clock at that moment. Everything appears in the true order - it's just that there's a 4 hour period (they later leap from 4:59am to 6:01am) where the timestamps are an hour earlier than they really were.
