They played "Redneck Woman" as Sarah Palin took the stage in FL today.
And they also introduced "Joe the Trucker".

I notice that Adam "Opie" Putnam fired up the crowd for her arrival. Glad he found time for that as he could not find time to debate his opponent, Doug Tudor, at the Tiger Bay Club yesterday. Plenty of time for Palin, though.

Audience Chants for Palin at Polk Appearance

AUBURNDALE | Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took the podium at Fantasy of Flight to the tune of the country song “Redneck Woman” shortly before noon Saturday. And the crowd of several thousand went wild.

..."For 27 minutes, the vice presidential candidate held the audience spellbound with Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s plan for the nation. She was interrupted by thunderous applause, chants of “USA, USA,” and even “Drill, baby, drill” when she touched on the need to drill for oil in areas previously off limits as part of an overall energy plan.

“America is not the problem,” Palin said. “America is the solution.”

It took almost four minutes for the cheering to stop and for her to continue.

She said the liberals were going to take over the whole government, inciting to anger.

She used Joe the Plumber’s remark about Obama’s ‘‘socialist’’ policy to talk about what she said is the Obama plan. And then elicited groans and boos from the crowd by asking, “Is the far left wing (of the Democratic Party) preparing to take over the federal government?’’

Yes, there was another Joe, Joe the Trucker.

Joseph Thielmann, 55, from Lakeland is “Joe the Trucker.” He said the firm owned by him and his wife has one trucker — himself.

“I am here because of her principles and morality. I don’t agree with this spread the wealth. I have been trying to earn some for my family,’’ he said.

Don't they realize they are being used in this manner?

She called Polk City by the wrong name....she referred to it as Lakeland, a whole other city.

Palin Addresses Lakeland from Polk City

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin addressed a rally in Polk City today by telling "Lakeland" that they need to help get U.S. Sen John McCain elected on Tuesday.

A few folks from the area said later that referring to the larger city down the road on Interstate-4 is not a big deal. Is it akin to being in Maitland and addressing the crowd by saying, "Hello Orlando"?

Well, an anchor on MSNBC -- generally a pro-Barack Obama network -- thought it was a gaffe, noting Palin called out the wrong city.

Playing "Redneck Woman" for her podium entrance....just embarrassing. Joe the Trucker, just too much.

3. The media is just starting to cover Doug Tudor after all this time.
I think the time was right, but the party did not support this race. I don't know if you read this about Debbie WS putting him down.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/2616

I think he might have had a good chance if he had been given party support soon enough. Putnam has a few million to play with, Tudor only had our donations.

Go hunt and drill and hee-haw all you want, Ms. Palin. Just don't do it anywhere near Washington.

51. I found a treasure last night..........
Hopefully it will be of limited historic interest when Obama wins.
I was looking through my folder of reference of mens heads for a job I'm doing.
I found a yellowed newspaper with a head of a local Palmyra ( NJ) politician.) His mod haircut, and striped tie, wide lapels, date it to late 70's + I moved from Philly in Aug'78, wouldn't have had a Burlington CO Times ( NJ) until after the move........On the back side there is a news article about Standard oil GIVING UP ON EXPLORATORY DRILLING OFF THE JERSEY COAST, BECAUSE THE PLACES THEY TRIED CAME UP EMPTY!
There was surrounding it another article about the pipeline from Prudoe Bay, explaining how the "glut" wasn't really a glut, just more than the West coast needed to buy at that time, so it was being sold off to other countries.
Unfortunately, I was saving the photo of that nice looking politician NOT the oil related articles, so they are incomplete, torn off at t he edges.................
( WHo knew? Why I am so wary of throwing ANYTHING AWAY!)
If mccain palin win I will retype it in full what there is of it, because it totally refutes the dril baby drill boys, and it probably in the archives of the paper! ( still three & publishing online now too.)
ANd even with much of it missing, the writing was much more in depth, detailed, than our soundbite news blurbs of today!

Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 10:21 PM by tularetom
Like these fucksticks actually have any wealth. They are the people who are going to receive the benefits of the Obama tax proposals.

I think it is actually a matter of some sort of sick macho "pride" with a lot of these assholes. They're unable to admit that in spite of all their hard work, they're really not a hell of a lot better off than the "welfare queens" they despise so much. McSame and Failin (or their handlers) realize that and play to that resentment. This lets Joe the Plumber and his buds have somebody they can look down on. Obama treats them like what they are - victims of a stacked game. And they don't like that.

He said something along the line that Joe is bitching that Obama will tax him for wealth he'll never have, but he has no problem giving 15% of his income to an agent.

I do think after we win the election, we need to push back against this fearmongering.

11. Here are the lyrics to Redneck Woman. Not very Vice presidential.
It is not presidential either. It is not the kind of thing that one would expect to be played at a vice presidential rally.

http://www.hit-country-music-lyrics.com/redneck-woman-lyrics.html

Nothing wrong with the song or with country music. I like a lot of country music. I just don't think that is an appropriate song for a vice presidential rally.

16. I have a "Redneck Woman" story for ya...
I toured as a roadie with Gretchen Wilson for a year. She's actually a good performer and a strong woman who came through some hard times to get where she is. I have nothing but the highest respect for her.
On the tour I worked she was booked to play at a very high priced Republican fundraiser, hosted by President Bush. I heard it was 15 grand a plate, so you can imagine who was there. Anyway the gig was the perfect example of the voting base discovering that the leaders they thought were "on their side" were actually elitist assholes. By the time Gretchen got to her "Redneck Woman" encore the audience was beyond disinterested and were actually looking down their noses at the band. It was probably the most uncomfortable I've ever been at a gig. Watching people dressed in Italian suits and Bob Mackie dresses stare down the "Redneck Woman" who "stands barefooted in my own front yard with a baby on my hip" was surreal at best.

If freepers could see Republicans how they really are, behind closed doors, how the "elites" stare down their $20,000 noses at them, they wouldn't stay freepers for long.

17. That's a fascinating story.
I love some country music, mostly the older stuff the more mellow stuff like Jim Reeves, Ray Price, and even some bluegrass groups like the Seldom Scene. I understand what you are saying.

I have this sinking feeling that for too long they have used those in this genre of music just as they used the religious right. They manipulated people who were sincere in their beliefs and fed on it until it became something out of control.

Manipulation at its best. I think of GWB referring to a group of millionaires saying he called them his base.

Sad. Thanks for sharing.

She thinks that because half of the 20% that now claim to be Republicans worship her that she is a national hit. If they run her as their candidate against Obama in 2012 she will be lucky to get 20% of the vote.

I can not understand why the Democrats did not run more pieces about her and her husband's ties to the secessionist Alaska Independence Party whose founder spoke of his absolute hatred of the United States. Perhaps someone can explain this to me. It was also totally neglected by the major new sources. I only know of one piece that was run on CNN. To me this is the most disturbing fact concerning her validity as a candidate.
