Saxby Chambliss in N. Georgia: "The Other Folks Are Voting"
Pretty stunning comment.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/31/chambliss-the-other-folks_n_139725.html

The Republican is outwardly confident, but there's urgency in his voice as he tours North Georgia, trying to boost turnout in his predominately white base: "The other folks are voting," he bluntly tells supporters.

And here the context is unmistakable:

The development is not lost on Mr. Chambliss. "There has always been a rush to the polls by African-Americans early," he said at the square in Covington, a quick stop on a bus tour as the campaign entered its final week. He predicted the crowds of early voters would motivate Republicans to turn out. "It has also got our side energized, they see what is happening," he said.

I will have to remind Mr. Chambliss that 24% of white voters in GA vote Dem (that is the 2004 figure), and adding in other non-black folks you get to 30% voting Dem. So my point is that this kind of despicable racial politics demonstrated here will not last forever. The demographics are changing, and so are the politics. I just know I really want to unseat this jerk.

1. The election is being stolen by "the other folks (who) are voting"!

2. I almost wish we had another week in this election, so that the racism of this statement
could really sink in. A run-off election looks possible, however, so let's not forget what we have to focus on come November 5th.

4. As stirring as it was to vote for Obama, a vote that mattered almost
as much was the vote I cast against this miserable, evil, revolting, pathetic, pustulent little excuse for a human being. Seeing him unseated would be the cherry on top come Tuesday night, though I'll settle for having my sundae without the cherry if I have to.

9. I've interned in the Senate, he is absolutely hated among Democratic staffers
Even though it's a partisan environment, staffers generally speak highly of most Republican Senators. Even Larry Craig (and this was post restroom incident) was actually pretty highly praised in the Democratic office I worked in. But Saxby Chambliss is one of the few exceptions. Pretty much every Democrat on the hill despises him for what he did to Cleland.

12. The bottom line is the Georgia voters did it to Cleland.
No doubt Chambliss is a creep, but the people of Georgia fell for it. Maybe that won't happen again.

16. Yea that's an interesting point
We always blame the Republicans for spreading the filth but we never blame the people for eating it up.

19. No the bottom line is that electoral fraud did it to Cleland. Max went in with almost 6% lead over
chambliss according to polls--both entrance and exit. It was the suspicious vote tallies that showed almost a 10% swing in favor of chambliss. This is almost a statistical impossibility. chambliss' "victory" was more owed to "the diebold effect" than the Georgia voters.

20. Half the reason bush went to war in Iraq was to put GOPs like Chambliss into office
The messaging in the war was absolutely politicized. It worked to bush's favor that the war was unnecessary. It created a controversy that he and his cohorts in the press could exploit.

A lot of Democrats gave bush the benefit of the doubt and he kicked them in the teeth.

I hope that the new President can prosecute the lawbreakers in the bush government. I fear that that will become politicized. The press is still not on "our" side.

22. "I'm so happy to be working for you, Mr. President."
Chambliss to * during his congratulatory phone call on election night, 2002. It was a big "fuck you" to the Georgians who voted for Chambliss and those who didn't.

Asshole needs to be sent home.
