So what did Palin say about the First Amendment???
Pardon my out-of-it-ness, but I've been seeing references to something she said all day, but I've managed to miss whatever it was. So what was it?

1. basically cited the 1st amendment as if the media calling her campaigning "negative" threatened it.
ironically, freedom of the press is IN the 1st amendment... so shes the only one actually threatening it.

2. She's got it totally backwards...she seems to think that the First Amendment
is designed to let politicians say whatever stupid-ass thing they please, without any media scrutiny whatsoever.

5. The lack of analytical thinking about issues relative to her ambitions
is astonishing. At least W never seemed particularly interested in becoming president. It's so reassuring to see a person of her mediocrity finally backfire on the Republican ticket.

get to give flight to whatever stupid thing may leave their mooseburgerhole with no negative consequences. In short, they think freedom of speech means freedom from any criticism for what they've said. But these people tend to be in their teens or early twenties, not 40+ and holding public office. What a colossal dumbfuck - maybe she really is a bigger idiot than our Cowboy Caligula.

11. I think she actually might be...she may be marginally more articulate,
or at least, capable of giving that impression while really not saying anything, but yeah...I think she's dumber than a bag of hammers.

17. You're right in comparing her to those in their teens and 20s
The similarity being that people whose critical thinking faculties aren't yet developed tend to reasons from ideology, vs. allowing reason to shape one. What an ominous quality in a middle-aged politician aspiring to the White House.

3. Pure ignorance of the fundamental nature of the republic...
as defined by the Constitution.

Let's keep this whacko far, far away from any authority to...well...do anything to impact our laws, and inalienable rights...

9. Paraphrased, she said the MSM isn't being sensitive to her needs.
... as in her need to say whatever she wants about her opponents without the MSM asking her pesky questions.

13. She said the media is threatening her First Amendment rights.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/palin-fears-med.html

Jaw-dropping, I know. According to her, the media ought not to be allowed to criticize her, because to do so they would be infringing on her rights.

Sarah Palin, Constitutional Scholar

In case you haven’t seen this yet, it’s yet another example of a woman saying stuff that would be considered disqualifying in a state senate race:

“If convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations,” Palin told host Chris Plante, “then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”

Needless to say, there is no first amendment right to be immune from criticism. Not to be immune from criticism from Sara Palin, not to be immune from criticism from bloggers, and not to be immune from criticism from the mainstream media. There’s nothing remotely like that in the first amendment, and rightly so.

15. She thinks that the First Amendment was written to protect politicians
from criticism by the Press; rather than to protect the Press from the censors in the government.
