I thought churches were supposed to stay out of politics.
Pastor Kevin Roop:

Quoted from FR--
"13. The election the day after tomorrow has consequences. Having considered the available information, this is my sincere opinion as a disciple of Christ. One candidate has demonstrated the intent to once and for all establish the “right” to end the life of an unborn human being - overturning any state laws that get in the way. The same candidate has demonstrated the intent to once and for all establish the “right” of a man to marry a man, and a woman to marry a woman. I believe that this candidate's party will, if given control of all the branches of government, advance both these causes. Gross sin and evil will become the law of the land. And woe to the pastor, woe to the church, woe to the disciple of Christ who dares to speak one word against these “rights”. Faith has consequences. Faith must be lived. Your vote, or your silence, now more than any other time in your lifetime, has consequences. God help us. Amen."

10. Report them to the IRS too.
The IRS supposedly is conducting an active investigation of these churches who are clearly stepping over the line between church and state.

5. This last month has been some king of time warp.
Socialism? Red baiting? Weather Underground? I'm surprised we're not revisiting the gold standard issue!

Well, they don't exist anymore so it's like "Who's Line is it Anyway?". The points don't matter.

These days the rantings there sound like the scary guy who always sits next to me on the bus.

I know it's not funny stuff like Palin getting punked or SNL. I am an atheist and the extent that churches like this abuse their power shocks me. Churches can advocate around issues but not for candidates.

11. Yes, and politicians are supposed to stay out of ...
... religious affairs. Unfortunately that "line of separation" between church and state is constantly being crossed in this election.

12. This morning, channel surfing between Sunday morning...
political shows, caught a sermon by a local minister who was preaching about racism. He was really railing against voting or not voting for a candidate based on the color of his skin. Kewl, me thinks til he went on to broaden his sermon to include communism and capitalism. He quoted some scripture to bolster his arguement that no hungry person should be given food if that person is able bodied to work (he found it in the bible, so he said).

He also went on to say that if you can't afford to watch TV and you need a forty dollar government handout to get a reception box, you should probably get a "second job".

It times like this that I am reminded why I am anti-religion.

14. On Sunday morning, there are a couple preachers on TV that I

can handle, and usually watch...but one lost me permanently this am...I switched the channel and will no longer watch him...up to now...I haven't been offended by anything he's said or done...but he got too far into the righteous shit this am...so that's it for me...tell me McCain or * are what I'd consider righteous....NOT!!....I guess it's all in PERSONAL perception...after all....and IF they are going to preach about who people should vote for...then they need to pay taxes on what they earn, or become outright politicians, instead of ministers....wb

16. I'm an atheist.
I was raised Catholic though and I don't remember this kind of directed--"you must vote this way" stuff. It's gotten really bad. And all that stuff about NOT helping people...hello! The whole New Testament is about helping people. Or at least I thought so.

And why is some preacher talking about digital boxes for cripes sake. What happened to dignity? And if his audience wasn't receiving the help to watch television he'd probably lose 2/3 of his audience. Ok, now I'm ranting.

And before anyone gets all over me, I know not all Christians are like this, etc. etc.

15. People need to stand up in mid sermon and LEAVE the church!
If I were a church going individual it's what I'd do anyway. Either that, or ask for equal time at the pulpit.
