My email to Joe Scarborough and his bosses
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 10:51 AM by EffieBlack
Joe - so you think there's something wrong with Obama saying that his success in Iowa vindicated his confidence in America because YOU would not have said such a thing about YOUR political success?

Let me break this down for you: You are a white man. You are a white man living in a country that has ALWAYS advanced and protected the rights and privileges of white men. Your political success represented nothing new and demonstrated no particular progress for this country.

On the other hand, Barack Obama is a black man who ignored people like you who tried to convince him and others that America was NOT the country he knew it to be, that his country is still too racist to allow him to achieve what every white man felt was his birthright. He instead banked his campaign on his faith that America is a better country than you believe or want it to be. And he, not you, was proven right.

His faith in America was vindicated. My faith in America was vindicated. The faith of millions of others was vindicated. But YOUR backward view of America and race was proven wrong. That, Joe, I suspect, is the gist of the problem you have with his comments.

You showed your true colors this morning and they're not pretty.

Joe Scarborough

9. Whether we are addicted to his programming they NEED to
hear from us and who disagree with Joe's point of view. I am not Black, i am hispanic but i thought Joe's comments were in fact a vindication of how certain white republicans feel about Obama running that they are so surprised that they will do or say anything to discredit Obama's clear achievements.

Maybe Joe's comments and views were not meant to be racist, and most likely he is not a racist person, but his true colors did come out this morning.

22. I agree. I don't watch these shows..
but I read what is said and have no problem popping off an email. They know very well when they get a barrage of emails and phone calls that they've stepped over the line. While they may not care, I think it is important that they know when they are pissing people off.

7. Joe also says its an arrogant statement by Obama - he needs to look at McCain's
"I am no longer my own man I am my countrys"

"I always put my country first" - his choice of Palin nixes that idea

"I know how to win wars"

"I know how to find Bin Laden"

Feel free to add the many and better ones that I missed. McCain's arrogance has been out of this world.

20. It's probably both
But race is definitely an element. Black folk are used to be called "articulate" when we talk kinda good and "arrogant" when we're not surprised that we talk kinda good. :-)

21. Thanks! Please follow up with them!
Change in these kinds of things never comes until it's harder to keep things as they are than to do something different. So far, it's easier for the MSNBC brass to keep Scarborough on the air saying the same idiotic things because they aren't getting any heat about it. If we step up the pressure enough, we can make it more and more inconvenient for them to tolerate this crap.

18. Beautiful, Chris Matthews supported Obama on the same principle
yesterday on his show when it was brought up. He said sure McCain never doubted this country he grew up a white son of a Admiral in the navy, and was laughing as he said it, like it should be obvious to everyone why.

19. This is a perfect example of the problem with Scarbororough's refusal to include blacks in most of
his discussions.

He certainly knows that he could never say such stupid things with a black person sitting across the table from him. Just about any black person who has spent more than a week in the United States of America and who is capable of speech would have shot him down in about 2 minutes.

24. I'm confused a bit. Didn't Obama's statement mean that *he* had faith ...
... and that the Iowa vote proved his faith was correct, and disproved the doubters (like those still saying that the country won't elect an African-American)?

27. Exactly - he's just repeating McCain's "He's not a real American" talking points
But he is spewing racial ignorance that needs to be put in check. Scarborough consistently throws rocks and hides his hand, playing the "who ME? How dare you call me racist" victim whenever he spits out this kind of crap. We need to call him on it.

28. I really don't know why MSNBC keeps Joe around.
I hope his contract is up soon.

The huge ratings for shows like Countdown and Rachel Maddow show that it would be in NBC's interest to ditch people like Joe and fill out their roster with all left-leaning pundits and commenters. They could thrive as a full antithesis to Fox.

I mean, Joe can't even beat CNN's Morning News. Joe only regularly gets 250,000 viewers each morning, while Fox & Friends almost pulls a million.

29. Please folks, when you send these kinds of messages...
...you need to include their advertisers.
You need to send them to the advertisers as well, and you need to let the advertisers know that you will not be purchasing their products as long as they sponsor these kinds of attitudes.

It may not seem like it, but it is completely counter-productive to send a great letter like this without including the advertisers. It just proves to the programmers that you watch the show, that they have your eyeballs and that their ad rates are justified.

Going on and on about how he (Joe) would tell his supporters that it wasn't about him, it was about them... my god, he's confused himself with Obama! I didn't believe him for one second. He's the biggest arrogant braggard I've ever heard. I end up fast-forwarding until I see his mouth has stopped moving. He loves himself sooooo much.
