Last night in a diner...
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 10:50 AM by Liberalboy
So my husband and I went to a local diner after a friend's party for celebrating our friend's cancer-free 5 year mark; we were hungry a little bit drunk and looking for a good burger. We stopped in the diner with kind of a rough and tumble look ordered our food and sat down. On TV the local 11:00 news was on and they were covering the Presidential Election. Out of the blue the cook yells from behind the grill; "I bet McCain is kicking himself now for picking that crazy lady!"

Some of the other patrons laughed and chimed in stating how the election this year bothered them and how they really hope Obama wins, and then just as we were about to chime in the cook says "Americans are just crazy enough to elect her."

BTW, we live in Canada, we immigrated here in 2006.

For the first time since we moved here it was assumed that we were Canadian, and I got to listen to the internal banter of ordinary Canadian folk who look south of the border with unease and shock. "Americans are crazy", "They think only for themselves", "How in the hell did a woman that unqualified ever get in a position of power." On and on it went to our obsession with guns, our aversion to a boob being shown on national television, to how far right the country has been hijacked. My hubby and I sat back listening as we saw what the rest of the world must be thinking.

This election is about so much more then just the next four years; it's either the about "the end" or "the beginning."

4. Great post. Great summary, and I feel the same way.
This election is going to be "the beginning" of something, and I really hope it is movement toward the realization of the ideals in our Constitution, and not further movement toward scary fundamentalist Christian beliefs.

6. That cook obviously doesn't know...
that thanks to his POW injuries, McCain has limited mobility in his legs, which prevents him from moving them far enough to kick himself. The US electorate will have to do it for him, and I hope they do it right in his sorry, right wing, warmonger ass.

7. You could have heard the same here in Denmark.
I am REALLY looking forward to having my fellow non US citizens see the other half again.

I know you guys are there, but for 8 years the world has not been seeing it.
