to my catholic brothers and sisters
please remember to point out to any single issue abortion voter that the vatican also condemned the war in iraq and the killing of innocents...

so therefor religion is mute in picking between the two!

3. indeed, i just think it needs to be pointed out that
regardless of which of the two they pick, they are slapping their religion in the face...
so therefor...
it doesnt matter!
so they should base their vote off of other issues.

2. Palin's religious backers hate Catholics for this very reason: Pro-Life is a LIE without Anti-War

and Anti-Capitol Punishment AND Catholics know this! - although many are lying about it and some are even engaged in heresy regarding Property http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Society_for_the_Defense_of_Tradition,_Family_and_Property

4. According to Church policy, outlawing abortion is not enough
Catholic authorities recognize that the factors that contribute to abortions must be dealt with (especially poverty). And the Jesuit magazine, America, recognizes that Obama's policies would lead to fewer abortions, McCain's would likely increase them.

7. See if you can engage her in a discussion of blasphemy sometime,
Re: The First Commandment: What forms might false-gods take? Is it possible for us to worship our own LIMITED (and, therefore, FALSE) understanding of God?

8. like i say,
point out your religion is also against the killing in an unneccesary war. a war that john mccain has always supported and infact urged happening.

i think the arguement that either way your voting against god is very effective with people like this.

also remind her not to be self righteous in her beliefs...
the humble man is the righteous man.

10. Ask Your Christian Brothers Why They Ignore These Biblical Passages
The Bible has numerous verses that would be considered liberal, if not leftist:

"If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered."

-Proverbs 21:13

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."

-Proverbs 31:8-9

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

-Matthew 6:24

He who mocks the poor shows contempt for their Maker; whoever gloats over disaster will not go unpunished."

-Proverbs 17:5

"He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich--both come to poverty."

-Proverbs 22:16

"Jesus answered, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'"

-Matthew 19:21

"He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses."

-Proverbs 28:27

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Luke 12:33,34

Indeed, liberation theology, which the Right Wing Christians consider leftist, is based on this quote from Jesus:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." (Luke 4:18-19)

11. My Devout elderly Roman Catholic white mother is voting for Barack Obama.
She would not even think to vote otherwise. She disagrees with Fallin's views on abortion. My mother has talked extensively about the issue of abortion and The Church's stance. She told me the other day that the Church believes if a nun were to be raped, that she is allowed to take the morning after pill. The Church also has a different stance when it comes to the pregnancy threatening a mother's life. This is not a clear cut issue. For thinking Catholics, I am sure they will come down on the right side of the aisle.
