A disurbing conversation with some college kids about the Pres. election. |
|
I know that America is loaded with some of the dumber of the dumb but I was dumbfounded (pun intended) this morning when I went to get some coffee.
I live in the South Bay area of Los Angeles (on the ocean) which is a fairly educated area. I have gone into the same coffee shop for the past year so they know me. This morning (Sunday) there was no one in there but the 2 college girls serving coffee and me. Since I am a regular they are fairly chatty and we are just shooting the breeze as I prepare the coffee for my wife and myself. The conversation went like this after one of the girls brought in a Sunday Los Angeles Times:
Girl 1 to me as she reads the paper: "I hear Obama is in some trouble in the polls"
Me: "Well, not really. He is actually up a couple points in most polls and surging in most of the Battleground states."
Girl 1: "Well, all I know is, that if Obama is elected there is something wrong with this country."
I don't comment. The girl is very pleasant and I wasn't about to try and change her mind. c'est la vie. The conversation continues:
Girl 1: "We were learning about this theory in Sociology the other day . . . about how the overmind controls both the extreme left and extreme right to get what they want . . ."
I'm familiar with the theory and let her continue for a bit, being polite and chatty. And then the following occurs. Girl #2, also in college, now speaks to Girl #1:
Girl 2 to Girl 1: "So, yeah, I don't know if Obama is ahead in the polls but I'm not voting for him. (pause) Who's running against him?"
Girl #1 thinks a moment.
Girl #1 to Girl #2: "Pa . . . Pay . . . Pal. (pause) No, wait. That's the girl.
They both stand there with furrowed brows trying their damnedest to think of theRepublican nominee for President.
Girl # 1 to Girl #2: "I can't remember."
Both girls shrugging it off: "Hmmmm"
They never figure out that it's John McCain. They wish me a cheery goodbye. I return the pleasantry and go outside and beat my head against a wall.

2. What did the poor wall ever do to you? |

Do you always vent your frustration on innocent third parties?
A little passive-aggressive there, aren't you?

3. lol. my 11 and 13 yr old sons can converse intellectually and accurately with you on the |
|
subject of the campaign. repug vs dem. what the two candidates advocate, the kids thoughts on both sides, and what has happened thru out this campaign. and btw, i have had conversation with other kids their ages that try to be informed too and are interested. it is just hard for them cause they get only the right wing view in their life. is really interesting when they come into this house and hear a different perspective. they are receptive.

7. These two won't vote. Since they have the attention span... |
|
of a gnat, there's no way they'll stand in a line 3,4,5 hours. They could so be using that time to get a pedicure or a spray tan.
