My mom, who has been convinced for months Obama would win, even when McCain took a slight lead shortly after the Republican Convention, just told me she thinks McCain will pull it out. I had talked to her a few days ago and felt then Obama would still win, but today said it looks like McCain is doing just enough in the swing states to pull out a close victory.
Thanks a lot, mom. :(

9. Because I'm bummed and have no one to talk to. |

My mom has been the reason I've been so convinced we'd win and having her say this sucks the life out of me.

She keeps saying, "You never know..." and doesn't want me to get convinced only to have him lose.

if I posted something like this you would have jumped all over me with some very bad words....all I can say is that you have right to post whatever you want and while I am sure your mom is a wonderful person I hope she is wrong about the election :-(

11. My Dad just bummed me out too |
|
He's been around far longer than I have and seen so many more elections so I take his opinion pretty seriously and he is worried about the variances in all of the different polls and is concerned that people will vote against/not vote for Obama because of racism. He does think that the election will probably be called fairly early after states like Indiana (where we are), Pennsylvania, and Virginia report in however, which IMHO would probably be a good sign of an Obama win.
Thanks a lot, Dad :(

People from older generations, like our parents, grew up with such entrenched racism around them, they find it hard to believe that it might not be there anymore.

23. Well, my Dad WAS born in 1928 |
|
So, you make a valid point. My Dad tends to take a more "pessimistic" or at least a more "laid back" approach to politics acting like the outcomes won't really affect him that much. I'm much more high-strung and hopeful about our chances for winning this year than he has been.

THIS WILL NOT STAND! THIS WILL NOT STAND! Our country...our Republic will absolutely crater if we allow a third presidential election in a row to be stolen. I think the ownership class....those pulling the levers....understand fundamentally that they are headed for decades of decline and extinction if Bush/Cheny/Rove/McCain fear and smear and division is allowed to continue.

I ask this because my mother, who is definitely a senior citizen, has been concerned for a long time that a "Bradley effect" will give McCain the win. But you have to remember that she is from a time when, for almost half her life, blacks weren't allowed to use the same drinking fountains as whites, and the notion of an African-American even serving in Congress would have been just too ludicrous to be taken seriously. I think it's easy for older Americans to assume a prevalent racism that really isn't there anymore.

past the graveyard as it were, because they think its bad luck otherwise. I know a lot of people, fearful that being too joyous will bring the opposite, do and say things just like that to ensure in their minds it will all work out..
Me I am for of those happy lots, but I have others in my family that think if you celebrate too soon you will be sorry. I mean it is just their mind set. Love them anyway. But that is how they work it out in the world :)

20. If you watch cable news you get the idea that the election is a tie |
|
The mason dixon poll is the norm at MSNBC so according to them the election is a toss up. You go elsewhere and it looks good for Obama.

22. I'm 56 and have seen a lot of elections. |
|
We look strong going into this one.
1. '06 broke at least at or better than expectations. The Republican's situation is worse than two years ago. 2. All polls show Obama lead nationally and nearly all show leads in critical states. We had nothing like this in 00 and 04. Gallup and Rasmussen, our best pollsters, show a stable race for the last few weeks.
3. The fundamentals of the economy point to a change election.
4. Big one: NO NEWS HEADLINES WHICH CHANGE DYNAMICS OF THE RACE. This is my number one thing I watch in the last few days..any big news which would destabilize the presidential race.
