4. So, who do you consider a "concern troll"?
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 04:17 PM by drumwolf
Anyone who actually dares suggest that Obama hasn't actually won until November 4th?

Anyone who thinks we need to keep fighting hard for Obama until the election is over?

GD hasn't changed since the last election. At this same time in 2004, there was a huge mob in DU that would shout down anyone who dared suggest that it was possible for John Kerry to lose. We know how that worked out. I'm not sure everyone's learned their lesson, though.

I'm going to be helping out with the Obama campaign at their local HQ in San Francisco later tonight. The LAST thing we need to be doing is to assume that he's won it just yet. We need to be sprinting towards the finish line, not letting up.

8. Made it clear in the post we have to keep fighting
but concern trolls are those who think we are in a hopeless tailspin. Obama is winning in the polls, early vote, and excitement. We've got to keep fighting, keep doing what we've been doing this election and WE. WILL. WIN.

YES WE CAN

6. I wouldn't call them trolls.
I haven't been to DU long, but I've noticed a trend around here where people will AUTOMATICALLY call a poster a troll if they deviate from the left one iota. Let's chill out on troll-witch-hunts a bit, shall we? It's okay to have slightly differing opinions. If a person thinks Obama will win the electoral vote but not the popular, does that make them a freeper troll? Look, I hate FR as much as the next guy, but let's chill out a bit.

Disenfranchised liberals, like myself, have every reason to be concerned. I know deep down Obama will win, but I know there's a lot of fucking crazy people on the right who are willing to do mostly anything to further their political careers.

7. What is a "concern troll" exactly? I keep seeing this term pop up and it seems to mean
someone who doesn't agree with the poster's opinion on a given topic.

17. I feel a 'concerned' troll...
Is someone who puts the poison of 'doubt' in the community well! We should keep our thoughts positive and our shoulders to the wheel at working hard at getting the vote out on Tuesday!
These 'concerned trolls' cast a spell of doubt by posting dubious polls and the like to bring everyones spirits down! They use NLP... imo! It's easy to spot if you are aware of what is happening!
It's a mind game...

you mean someone who is honestly worried or concerned is not allowed to post their fears in the hope of a little bolstering by the community without being accused of being a troll. How supportive of you. :eyes:

on edit I apologize for my rude comment. I am just sick of the term concern troll. I think most people are honest in their posting. Those who have an agenda out themselves soon enough. I hate the rudeness shown to those who are expressing an honest opinion/fear and here I have gone and been rude myself.

I was just trying to be cute, by the way. Actually I agree with your post 100%. Except that I didn't think you were being rude, just a bit sarcastic.

28. Never said that... you misinterpreted my words.
I try to not be rude to anyone and didn't feel you were being rude to me... so no apology is necessary... a misunderstanding is all! And I agree, most people are honest!
However,I can 'feel' the difference if someone is honestly worried or concerned as apposed to one who is spreading fear or has a dark/negative agenda attached to their postings! It takes awareness of NLP as I said... it's an intuitive talent! I have also noted quite a few postings from 'concerned trolls' here on DU in the last few days!

31. Don't worry about it too much.
There have been and most certainly probably are people motivated and even paid to disrupt DU/any message board for the well connected BFEE/Military-industrial-complex/Money-master-bankers/Think-tank/whoever to keep the fully bought RepubliCONs to stay in power. Actually, by now they just want to keep their own job.

They know they cannot post pure garbage such as a bunch of negative sounding adjectives beside a Dem's name or just some list of negative Republican talking points. So, they SOMETIMES post that they like this Dem except (insert negative point) CONCERNS them.

This falls under the DU rule radar. So it becomes a way for them to throttle us. That's all. If it hasn't bothered you, just don't let it. There are a lot of ways in which trolls bother us. Not the least of which is to bitch and bemoan that there are trolls, look out, beware, ...

When you see someone being awful to people such as gays, women, newbies, or over the top reverse story complainers just look at it with a ready grain of salt. And, keep reading the articles, posting your own comments, reading other comments, and CHECK THE LINKS. (There used to be a lot of trolls posting articles and links, only the links did not say what they said it said.)

Most of all: Have fun.

29. What a concern troll really is
A "concern troll" is a freeper who comes on a progressive board and posts some smear of a Dem candidate, all while professing to be concerned about it.

"Oh, I'm so worried that Obama is going to lose votes because his daughters were members of the Communist Party. How are we going to respond to this and defend Obama?" Or something along those lines. That's a concern troll.

People who may be overly worried or overly sensitive to bad news are not trolls. Some need reassurance and others need ignoring, like the lady next to you on the airplane who is just sure that the plane is going to crash. But these people are not trying to do damage -- they are just scared.

So, please save all your bullshit about concern trolls for the people who really are concern trolls.

Otherwise, you're just like the freepers who call everyone who disagrees with them "a terrorist."

32. Good post, nichomachus - some people here need to be told that.
I just came back to DU only a couple of days ago after a very long hiatus that began shortly after the 2004 election. I was on DU during the election, and in the last couple of weeks before it happened, this whole board was one big echo chamber already convinced John Kerry had won and anyone who dared suggest otherwise was a troll (the term "concern troll" had not yet come into usage at the time, but if it had, every other phrase would have been "concern troll"). I stopped visiting DU shortly afterward because of it.

That kind of crap is not helpful to our own cause. We need to see things as they're happening, not just the way we want to see them. Fortunately, it seems from this thread that some DU'ers have learned their lesson from the 2004 election.

Granted, Obama is an infinitely superior candidate to Kerry, and the Republicans are in a far worse position than they were in 2004. But the Republicans will stop at nothing to win, and we cannot let our guard down for even a second.
