GRRRR! Outnumbered at a family gathering
Okay, I just survived being surrounded by McCain supporters at my son's family birthday party. (It wasn't at my house--it was at my mom's--so I couldn't even throw the infidels out.) A cousin said that she WAS going to vote for Obama until her daughter (a huntin' redneck) told her that he refused to put his hand over his heart when facing the flag and refused to wear a flag pin--like THAT is the most important issue facing this country. Apparently that was a deal breaker for her. :eyes:

But what was worse was my fundie-Catholic, Rush- and O'Reilly and Hannity-lovin' aunt, who started in on "all the terrorists he's lived with". Yeah, ALL the TERRORISTS he's LIVED with.

:wtf:

I started to respond, but she SHUT ME DOWN. She wouldn't look at me and talked over me. Typical, yes? So I said, "I don't care who you vote for in the end, but you could at least listen to the truth about those accusations first."

Apparently not. She walked right out of the room without another word.

I mean... :grr: I'm all for a healthy political argument, but she wouldn't even let me talk for five seconds. Is this how the braindead always act when faced with possibly hearing the truth?

told me he's not going to vote for Obama, he's voting McCain. He said he would have voted Obama but it occured to him if Obama wins, he is probably going to be assasinated and then there are going to be race wars in the country... so he doesn't think he should win.

I mean how can you argue with such utter stupidity?

It is the level of stupidity that gets me. I expect people to actually think logically about these things, so when they spout off with completely insane stuff like what I heard tonight--and what your dad said--I start to lose faith in humanity.

Faux and the other right-wing shills will start in on him IMMEDIATELY and start griping that he's not fixing all our problems fast enough--you know, those problems that pundits have said are going to take DECADES to fix. It's gonna continue to be ug-LY in this country unless one of the goals of the Obama administration is to shut these whiners the phk up. (And I do believe he will.)

I wonder how long it's going to take the right-wingers to wake up and realize he's going to be a president worth getting behind.

it would still be the least of my concerns, if even a concern at all. I can think of a milion other things that are a million times more important. So, where is McCrypts flag lapel pin?? I have not seen it for a long time, how unAmerican...:eyes:

How simple minded can you get? "ALL the TERRORISTS he's LIVED with." What the hell is that about?

When yyou can not get a word in edge wise, that is when you say "Shut the fuck up and let me explain!" Yeah, the brain dead and the Fucked news addicts do avoid confrontation, because they always lose. They know they are wrong and are unwilling to concede to truth and fact.

28. That's what *I* said
When my cousin said all that shit about the pledge and the flag pin, I said, "That's pandering to the lowest-common denominator kind of fear. Is that really the biggest issue we should be thinking about in this election? I mean, if I don't wear red, white, and blue on the Fourth of July, that doesn't mean I hate America." She responded, "Yes, but this is about the person who's going to hold the highest office in the country."

...I'm not even sure what that MEANS. If anything.

As for my aunt who walked away, I could tell she was afraid of hearing any dissenting opinion. Their bubble of delusion is so fragile, they're terrified of hearing anything that might pop it.

36. "Yes, but this is about the person who's going to hold the highest office in the country."
and what does that have to do with the current topic of discussion?? ZERO.

I do not even say the pledge, if they changed it back to its original context I would, but they fucked it up back in the day. I fined the 4th of July to be a glorification of War, something I do not like at all, so I do not celebrate it myself, That does not mean I do not love America. I am fond of many of Americas attributes and opportunities, but I am also willing to dissent it.

They do live in a fragile world of delusion where they do not have to face reality.

You are going to get the last laugh.

It is so like right wingers to talk over someone and refuse to listen. Hannity does it, O'Lielly does it - they just can't deal with the opposing arguments, because on some level they know they are logical and emotionally don't want them to be true, so they try denial.

Stay away from politics, its always better to just not discuss it unless you want a huge fight on your hands. We all get overly emotional when we discuss politics, both sides. I prefer to just say we agree to disagree though I showed my parents the Gallup LV poll results today and they were depressed. I did not rub it in and said we will find out what happens election night and we all must stand behind Obama if elected as he will need our help.

54. I'm happy my family doesn't really go into politics much
Most of my family are independents and don't go crazy about politics. The family that I've talked to are all going for Obama. There's one person from Indiana who is "undecided" (I think he'll probably go McCain). The only family member who goes a little crazy politically is a great aunt who I don't see much anymore. She liked Bush because he "respected life." She HATES Hillary and our Governor (Granholm)...and likely Obama too. She is just goes on and on and doesn't let anyone get a word in otherwise. I usually leave the room because I know she isn't going to have a conversation but rather a rant. I don't get why some people just can't have a calm conservation, without the "he's a terrorist" kind of stuff.

57. Yep that's what they do.. They have 2 choices when confronted
the first is to do what your aunt did. The other is to lose the debate and have to admit that they are voting for McCain because all they care about is themselves and/or their bank account. Most of them would rather walk away than have to admit they are voting for McCain because they are selfish and greedy.
