5. Why doesn't Bush put his hand over his heart for the National Anthem? |
|
Because that is traditionally done for the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Neither does Obama, neither do I. Lots of people at baseball games do, for some reason.

29. The best one I'd thought of so far was "The Boxer".... |
|
... which sounds like it was written FOR Barack...
When I left my home and my family, I was no more than a boy In the company of strangers In the quiet of the railway station, runnin scared Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters, where the ragged people go Looking for the places only they would know
Li la li...
Asking only workmans wages, I come lookin for a job, but I get no offers Just a comeon from the whores on 7th avenue I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there
and Joe...
In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him til he cried out in his anger and his shame I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains Yes he still remains
(warning to all DU-ers, I tend to get VERY cheesy during the more memorable moments in my life, this being high on the list, I fear my cheese-factor may be off the scale, read my posts at your own risk!) :)

33. Yep. I cannot listen to "He Was My Brother" w/out crying. Another Obama song... |
|
"Born at the Right Time"
Down among the reeds and rushes A baby boy was found His eyes as clear as centuries His silky hair was brown
Never been lonely Never been lied to Never had to scuffle in fear Nothing denied to Born at the instant The church bells chime And the whole world whispering Born at the right time

57. Actually, the version in the ad is Simon's solo studio recording... |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 06:04 AM by regnaD kciN
...while the full concert version in the link, of course, has both Simon and Garfunkel harmonizing on it (and is, in my opinion, much better).
And I've always found it amusing that "American Tune composed by Paul Simon" is, except for the bridge, neither an American tune nor composed by Paul Simon. (It's a 16th Century Lutheran church chorale composed by Hans Leo Hassler and featured prominently in Bach's St. Matthew Passion, although Simon obviously wrote new words for the melody.)

Words & music by paul simon
Manys the time Ive been mistaken And many times confused Yes, and often felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh, but Im alright, Im alright Im just weary to my bones Still, you dont expect to be Bright and bon vivant So far a-way from home, so far away from home
I dont know a soul whos not been battered I dont have a friend who feels at ease I dont know a dream thats not been shattered Or driven to its knees Oh, but its alright, its alright For we lived so well so long Still, when I think of the Road were traveling on I wonder whats gone wrong I cant help it, I wonder whats gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly And looking back down at me Smiled reassuringly And I dreamed I was flying And high up above my eyes could clearly see The statue of liberty Sailing away to sea And I dreamed I was flying
We come on the ship they call the mayflower We come on the ship that sailed the moon We come in the a-ges most uncertain hours And sing an american tune Oh, and its alright, its alright, its alright You cant be forever blessed Still, tomorrows going to be another working day And Im trying to get some rest Thats all Im trying to get some rest

are most Philly suburbanites fed up with Bush/McCain?

|
I've seen some MC- Palin signs even in a very liberal upper-class part of the city here, which is kind of weird.
There are a lot of pragmatists who are fed up with Bush-type policies in the Northern suburbs here, which used to vote more Rep in the past - they voted out a lot of Reps during the last election. I think a lot of middle class professionals are trending more Dem, while the more RW religious folks are trending Rep.
