Pat Buchanan makes the great weird observation of this election season
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 09:00 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
He said McCain on Saturday Night Live reminded him of Emil Jannings in The Blue Angel, at the end of the movie when he has lost all dignity.

God, that's twisted. (And good)

Something tells me McCain is not going to get an easy ride from the right after this election.

1. Whaaa?
I'm ashamed to say that I've never seen this Marlene Dietrich classic. Now I MUST watch it.

4. It's ancient, but a classic
It's about a professor who falls for a cabaret singer and completely degrades himself.

2. Yeah, that was good - he also said it's a mistake to make fun of your own strategy.

6. Well he's right about that.. McLame did himself NO favors last night.
Like Sarah's visit, all he did was play into the stereotypes..

14. Especially when "your own
strategy" sucks in the first place?

3. he is so-o-o-o old
I didn't think he was THAT old.

I expect it was the the disturbing relationship between McCain & Palin that tickled his long term memory cells...

8. Yes, Chuck Todd briefs them on the *real* situation
That was somehow revealed earlier in the season, IIRC

9. Fascinating observation. (Great film, BTW.) At the end, the temptress has reduced
the once-famed professor into a circus clown.

12. They can't admit that their ideology will be rejected
Therefore, they have to blame it on McCain's bad performance in the way he's tried to champion that ideology.

13. I was really shocked that Pat came up with this analogy.
Surprisingly convoluted for him, but accurate!
