I think I'm having an anxiety attack
I've been pretty good not needing to be "talked down" (god I loathe that phrase, can we retire it on Wednesday? Please?) but tonight I feel like I'm about to fly an airplane with no training.

I think its the lack of bad news. I was fully anticipating some type of surprise this weekend. Its just so quiet. Which is good, just surreal. What was the weekend before election day '96 like?

I realize I'm rambling. I'm just a nervous guy to begin with. I'm not use to my party being on the precipice of victory.

7. They are always like this
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 09:15 PM by Hokie
I remember 1996 and even though I was 99% sure that Clinton would easily beat Dole I still was not calm until the returns start coming in on Tuesday night. My advice is read a good book about something like sports or science. Read something completely divorced from politics. Turn off the TV. The talking heads will only plant seeds of doubt. You see that is what they do. They want to keep you watching for the next "breaking story". Finally, look at Obama. Look how calm he has been. Even when the media went gaga over McCain's absurd choice of a running mate he never got off message or lost his cool. He knew that bluster fades and truth endures.

9. The weekend before the election of '96? Not much.....

Dole was still out there saying "don't believe the polls... I feel a sea change"

I remember Mary Matalin on CNN trying to trump up the "illegal chinese donations" charge and saying that Americans would reject Clinton at the last minute.

11. Hang in there
I'm going through the same thing. I feel like I'm losing it. I can't take it. I don't trust these bastards and until it's a done deal, I won't breath.
We know how we felt last time and we can't help it. I was so disappointed in 2004, it was so bad, I can't imagine what this would be like. We all have that inside of us. We don't trust them. When this is over and Barack is the winner I will breath a deep breath and begin to live and regain what I lost for the past 8 years. But I'm still afraid.

15. Your right
I've been saying that all week, I won't watch or listen to anything about the election until it's over. But I can't. That night I hope to take a Sleeping herb and go to sleep and wake up and it will all be ok.

14. Wolsh, my friend.. take a breath, watch this new Obama ad a dozen times or so, go
listen to Obama's Infomercial, or his Acceptance Speech, then take some Advil PM and try to sleep !

It's almost over and it's going to be fine. I promise you this.

18. I would take a break away from the election and chop some wood or something

I have had anxiety attacks before and doing yard work always helps me. It causes you to focus your attention on something mindless and soothing.

20. My wife is kind of new to politics, she asked me tonight I told her I was worried tonight....
and she asked me if there was any way I really thought that McCain could pull this out.You would have thought that I posted on Free republic the way I was coming up with low probability scenarios.

22. I think we've been trying so long.
We've been at this so long, that we're going crazy knowing it is finally here. I still just want it to be over with. And I will know the Country will be ok.
And we are not lost.
