This would go a long way toward shorter lines at the polls! |

Only have the Congressional and Presidential candidates and any federal referendum (very rare) on the ballot. This would considerably shorten the ballots in every state therefore making it easier and quicker for each person to mark their ballot. State and local races as well as state and local referendums can be scheduled for a different time of the year. One other thought..if elections were changed in this manner, Federal regulations can be put in place to cover the national election instead of each state having a different set of rules.
edited to add.

Then, just have a big, giant book. You sign your name and you write your choice beside your name. How easy is that?

Double wide lines. Or even triple wide lines. Most sidewalks can handle that. Then the lines would be a lot shorter. Everyone would be happier with getting into vote in 1/2 or 1/3 the time. I'll be glad when we're in charge.

...could make it so. Per the constitution congress has the right to declare how federal elections are set-up and run.
And it could be done on paper ballots counted by humans. Cheap, affordable, and trustworthy.

7. We have a referendum in my county that's about changing our form of government (home rule) |
|
I've gotta say ... with something like that, it'll be great to have a LOT of people voting on it, so we really know the will of the people (not some lame 20 percent of the people).

8. Can you imagine the low T/U for the state elections? Or the poor T/U for non-Pres years a state |
|
didn't have a Senator running for re-election? The House member could get elected with 10% of the actualy voting age population.

9. I SO agree. The ONLY thing on the ballot in a Presidential election ought to be ... |
|
... the President and VP.
ANYTHING else ought to be voted on in a separate election.
Election Day ought to be a federal HOLIDAY - NO ONE works. They only VOTE.
Ballots ought to be FEDERALLY, NATIONALLY standardized - the SAME all across the country - PAPER, and hand-counted.
