Do not flame me, I am so not criticizing Michelle but
I am amazed and impressed at how comfortable she is with herself that she can dress so casually at this point of the campaign!

2. I would imagine that when Neiman-gate happened....
... that gave the Obama camp an excuse to dress Michelle down a bit ... a challenge she GLADLY accepted.

3. Well if you aren't criticizing, why are you mentioning this at all?
I'm remarking on this after I heard some woman criticize her "turquoise stockings" actually pants this morning on C-Span and saying she shouldn't be First Lady because of it. I suppose eight years of the present First Lady wearing upholstery and drapery fabric made into ill fitting clothes means she shouldn't have been First Lady either.

8. I am mentioning it because I find it really refreshing considering
what most first ladies and potential first ladies do to themselves to feel they fit the part. It is strikingly casual, you can not argue that!

10. I'm arguing about it because of your timing.
It seems on the last leg of this campaign, critics are pointing out the clothes of the wife of the person who is being elected to office using code words like "stockings" for pants or "dressing casual" even though they are outdoors and it's getting cold. They are trying to say she doesn't know how to dress like a dowdy white person would. Please, no more mention of clothes until inauguration day. Then feel free to pick apart all the ball gowns including the First Lady's.

21. I've been around.
DU has grown so much since the early days that my posts get lost in the volume of threads. I know I recognize the old timers less and less all the time as well. I'm sure they are here but I've missed their posts in the sheer volume that goes through this website every day. :hi:

5. As far as the yellow and blue ensemble...
Sometimes if you're in a big hurry to buy a quick outfit and it looks nice on the rack... you buy it, hoping it will fit right. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

13. I just hope she will keep in mind...
...that these are historical days, and historic photos will be taken.

I agree that this particular outfit is unflattering. The T is all wrong -- too tight, slightly transparent. She should dress in a way that draws no attention away from her husband, and that is achieved with simple, beautifully fitting clothing.

She is a beautiful woman. I don't think she quite understands yet the sense of history -- the whole globe is looking to her cultural influence.

14. No OOPS.
Why do we insist that only anorexic women are beautiful? What is wrong with a full figure? NOTHING. Some of us like that. <winks> I think she looks lovely and quite elegant.

Do we really want our first lady wearing $4,000 outfits once? How about a real mom? A real wife? It's refreshing to see her as a real person.

Of course, she could buy an iron.

I thought she looked just fine.

she was using the sweater from the ensemble she wore on Leno, in a different outfit.

12. it was purposeful. she needed to look "down home". Bruce
and his family mingling with Obama and his family was a planned visual. Her kind of goofy getup was purposeful too. It's how Wal-Mart moms dress.

16. I liked her outfit. A t-shirt and nice jeans, with a cute JCrew sweater. Very comfy.
Just a nice day out with the kids, who were also dressed down, at the end of a very very long year or so. I think when you're going to an outdoor rock show and rally, it was appropriate. I was glad to see that she didnt' feel the need to wear a suit or dress.

She was really bloodied by the GOP during the primaries, and she has really turned her image around to what it should be and is very popular now.
