Independent Candidate "SPOILER" helping Norm Coleman win
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 11:57 PM by pathansen
Third Party Candidate Dean Barkley knows its a very tight race between Coleman and Franken and that at this point in the game, its extremely unlikely he has any chance of winning. If he was not in the picture, Al Franken would have a clear lead. Barkley is taking more votes from Franken than Coleman. Yet Barkley still stubbornly persists in the final debate tonight.

We don't need anymore dishonest crooks as Senators in Washington.

1. Dammit. Was rooting so badly for Franken, and now it looks like he's gonna get edged out.
I'm still hopeful, but ready for disappointment.

12. At least if Coleman wins there may be a Senate investigation into recent charges
esp. since GOP no longer will control our government.

3. I seem to recall the "left" in MN often being split
in state-wide elections. This wouldn't be the first time and likely not the last.

4. Perhaps a closer look needs to be taken at Barkley
or at least who his campaign contributors are

6. Many third party voters don't materialize in the voting booth
They tell pollsters that's who they want to vote for in their hearts, but in the voting booth they vote for the major candidate who is closer to their views.

7. I hate the idea that Democracy is somehow better if there are only two candidates
Just like Clinton was able to win in a 3 person race on his own merits, then so must Franken. I *want* Franken to win, but it's anti-democratic to wail that only if only there were fewer choices everybody would be better off.

In any event, Hopefully Obama will have strong enough coat-tails in Minnesota and Franken will be in the Senate.

9. Not when the election is this close and there is so much at stake
If Barkley never existed, Franken would have a clear lead. But because of Barkley's selfish ego or need to feel important, Coleman may very well win.

8. Dip
I was planning to vote for Barkley but have changed to Franken since the race is so close. I may be wrong, but I believe Independence Party candidates generally dip considerably before elections, and Barkley has been in the same place for weeks.
