The man just had fools fooled in 2000. He is no maverick or reformer. He seemed centrist in 2000 because he wanted people to think he was. But he wasn't at all. This country was just coming off of 8 years of prosperity with a popular Democratic president, but who had disappointed the country with some ethics issues. McCain was simply positioning himself to pick up the wide middle in order for him to go up against a BUSH. It didn't work out. As far as I know, McCain has always been a temperamental, whining, opportunistic bully. He has always been a very hard right jerk.

he voted against the minimum wage many times
voted against children's health care
voted for Bork's confirmation!
voted against the Martin Luther King holiday
voted against equal pay legislation
hyped up the war in Iraq before the smoke had even cleared the sky over Manhattan
remakes himself to fit whatever the mood is at the time
is a notorious liar
treats women like shit
hates, HATES with a passion of a million suns anyone who disagrees with him. He takes it personal and to the heart
And he never achieved a goddamn thing in his life without the help of his father or his millionaire wife

Everyone needs to read that Rolling Stone article. It explains everything you need to know about John McCain and why he cannot become the next POTUS.

I have zero respect for the man. Not fooled at all by the fake self-serving "charm" many people seem to get caught up in.

1. He was at least likeable in 2000, even if I would not have voted for him
But that seems like a long time ago now.

9. So he was likable to you when he pandered to the bigots with the Confederate flag crap?
to win South Carolina? Were you aware he had voted against MLK Day? Or maybe aware of his PNAC ties? Or maybe aware of the mean spirited jokes he had made about a child? Or maybe about his voting against the minimum wage, children's health care, and leading the charge to eliminate the Department of Education and Dept. of Energy?

This little schtick he was playing in 2000 was nothing more than a WHINE from him because he was on the loser's end of it from Bush. He got Out Bushed and he was PISSED. So what did he do? He as usual, got all self-righteous and shit because someone was able to do it better than him and took away his chance to be POTUS. But looka here in 2008. All of the folks he ran down are now his best friends. Fact is, he's the type of person who picks people up and sits them down according to his opportunistic whims.

10. You completely missed the point of what I said
This is pointless right now. I should have kept my mouth shut, lest I get berated by the "soft on Bush" crowd.

2. You are right. That is an excellent article, that even brings into question his status as a
war hero.

When you are done reading it, you realize that he always was, and probably always will be, an ill-tempered, selfish, spoiled brat.

3. McCain doesn't care about domestic policy, just fighting wars
I don't disagree that his positions have been more right wing than people assume. But I don't think it's simply because he's a closet right winger and he's lying. I think he can put on his whole "maverick" shtick because he's downright apathetic on domestic issues and so he has no ideological qualm with talking out of whatever side of his mouth will get him votes on that day. The only thing he has ever been consistent on is not surrendering in Vietnam (Iraq).

4. And he's always been rabidly anti-choice
That, alone, made me realize what a misogynist he is.

Coz what you posted is actual fact easily verifiable.

But Americans do love their myths.

7. Yeah, the Rolling Stone article makes it sounds like what we saw in 2000
and the years after was an act. Certainly as his big dream has been slipping away, the way we've seen him act in response is not pretty.

Of course, if he'd gone through with his flirtation with switching parties, he'd probably be VP right now.

8. In 2008, when this "tree" fell in the woods, we were there to hear it fall.
In 2008 we saw, without question that john mccain is nothing but a liar. We know what you are now, mccain.

Yeah, not knowing the truth about the man before 2008 is bad, but the black hole of bush overshadowed everything. Now we know about mcLiar.

11. The rhetoric and rallies are pretty ugly
maybe the ugliest I can recall. He sets the tone.

A lot like dumbya but without the smooth charm, rather, a combative version.

14. Thank you! I've never gotten the whole "McCain has changed" meme.
No, he hasn't changed at all - he's just a lot more obvious now.
