If Gallup's national polling trends and turnout rate projections continue, this is what the total vote would roughly look like:

Barack Obama -- around 75,000,000 votes
John McCain -- around 60,000,000 votes

I know the deal about predicting too soon, but damn that's a sweet happening.

National Voter Turnout in Federal Elections: 1960–2008

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_registered_voters_in_the_United_states_in_2008
169 million registered - 86 million democrat - 55 million republican - 28 million others registered.

135/169 = 80% Of registered voters

I have to find the 2008 on total voting age population in US to see that %

http://www.hubdub.com/m20805/Will_any_state_have_more_than_60_of_the_voting_age_population_turnout_to_vote_in_the_US_elections
According to http://elections.gmu.edu/ the total voting age population of the United States is 231 million.
National turnout is expected to be close to 50% of voting age population

135/231 = 58.44%

1960, 1964 & 1968 has over 60% turnout.

2. They're estimating 75% turnout.
Which would be one of the largest turnouts since women were given the right to vote.
