Not because there's anything to be bashful about, but because I have found that when I'm confronted with such absurd stupidity -- I have the same reaction I do after waking from an afternoon nap with a headache. Can people really be this dumb? Yes, and FreeRepublic is a glaring and ugly example.

Mind you, it does give a good idea of what they're afraid of. Malcolm X scared the fuck out of some people because he was confrontational, but also intelligent and articulate. Much of the flap over Jeremiah Wright was because his lines like 'chickens coming home to roost' had such strong echoes of Malcolm X's remarks. I admit to needling my conservative acquaintances by throwing phrases like 'by any means necessary' into the conversation from time to time.
