Why Are Susan Collins And Olympia Snowe Still Republicans?
The party has clearly left them...

It left them when they were passed over for a cipher like Sarah Palin...

1. Because they are republicans
they're hardly Jim Jeffords or Linc Chafee repubs. neither will ever quit.

2. Probably
But I don't think they any are more or less progressive than the Nelsons , Blanche Lincoln Lambert,Mark Pryor or Mary Landrieu...

Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell and Richard Shelby left the Dems in the early 90's when the Democratic brand was suffering...Surely the Republicant brand is in worse shape...

3. RINOs Except...When It Counted They Voted With Bush :(
Republicans in name only. Being a lifelong Mainer, I do appreciate much of what they have done over the years, but it is time for them to go. While much of the time they have voted in our best interests, there have been many occasions when they could have done the right thing and they did not. Instead, they voted with this administration. I personally can no longer, in good conscience, give either of them my vote. They should have left their party, but they didn't.

4. Because they support Republican corruption...
...and tacitly support ciphers like Palin.

6. Because we Mainers play a game
It's called "keeping the up-state, backwoods areas happy". The word democrat usually makes them go into fits. Read the "Beans of Egypt Maine" or the other two books in Carolyn Chute's (Shute??)triology and you will get a clue. Carolyn has these pot luck dinners where, honest to god, you bring a dish to pass and your gun! I'll guarantee you that the books are so wierd you have to read each page twice to understand what the hell she is saying but it does paint a picture of what we refer to as "the county". You have to kinda "slip" a democrat in under sheep's clothing. That's why Tom Allen is getting his butt beat off by her---too liberal for upstate tastes.

7. Yup. I live in New England and was taught that upper Maine is very conservative.
The rest of Maine is more like the rest of New England but upper Maine and parts of NH have always been more to the right. That being said, our conservative areas in New England would be considered liberal in other states. We have a Repub governor in CT, Jodi Rell, who would never win a race in more conservative parts of the country.

13. Cohen is a good guy, was in Clinton administration wasn't he?
I would gladly take Collins and Snowe over Joe Loserman, my lovely senator, anyday, at least they are who they say they are.

15. That sucks with all the McPhalin supporters. At least Joe Loserman is not

your senator like he is mine! I live in Terryville, more near Hartford. Its pretty blue up that way. I am happy to vote for our rep, Chris Murphy again. This will be only his second term. Only really conservative spots here in CT are the really rich towns, like Westport.

11. Regardless of their label, when we need the votes in the Senate,
they will be the repubbies to turn to. On many issues, they will joins the Dems.

I think we will have 60 seats, even without traitor joe, but we will still need a couple repubs from time to time.
