BREAKING: Barack Obama does not want to see your underwear
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 09:51 AM by Pirate Smile
Barack Obama does not want to see your underwear

So he tells MTV, which keeps the underwear-themed questions alive:

Sway: I know people have piercings, tattoos. Eric, in particular, is talking about a ban on sagging pants. Do feel like people should be penalized?

Obama: Here is my attitude: I think people passing a law against people wearing sagging pants is a waste of time. We should be focused on creating jobs, improving our schools, health care, dealing with the war in Iraq, and anybody, any public official, that is worrying about sagging pants probably needs to spend some time focusing on real problems out there. Having said that, brothers should pull up their pants. You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What's wrong with that? Come on. There are some issues that we face, that you don't have to pass a law, but that doesn't mean folks can't have some sense and some respect for other people and, you know, some people might not want to see your underwear — I'm one of them.

on all levels. Anyone talking about a law is an idiot, but at the same time...those young folks (and I'm in the demographic) who have their pants saggin' should have some self respect. Barack is always on point.

12. While walking around campus recently, I was actually thinking about this issue
and what a role model Barack will be to many young men, black or white. Young men of all races in this country are wearing that saggy pants style. I'm hoping that they might look at Barack and see how sharp he dresses, he looks just as good in jeans as he does dress pants, and try to imitate his style.

I've noticed the skinny pants (or as I call it, girl pants) style seems to be catching on with young men lately, so I think saggy pants may be on their way out anyway. But the funny thing about the skinny pants, is the kids still wear them low with part of their undies hanging out the top. Anyway, I think it's good that Barack is encouraging young men to show some respect for themselves and for others around them by dressing in a less offensive style.

14. Sagging pants are a reference to jailhouse clothes.
It would be wonderful if young people copied the dress of a successful, admirable man like Barack Obama instead of copying prisoners' clothes.

13. If he promises to give up the pleated pants....
..... I'll do my part to stop pants sagging.

I love the man, but he needs some pants that were made in the 21st century.

I'm talking TAPERED cuts with pleats! Egads!

29. my 8th grade history teacher used to share the same sentiment
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 02:33 PM by iamthebandfanman
almost everyday in the hallway before and after class with my classmates... lol

he was probably my favorite teacher of all time.

he had interesting views as a black man who grew up(went to high school) in the mid 60s...
he and my mother had actually gone to school together shortly after the segregation ended ... my mom told me she was forced to argue for wallace in a mock debate in her class ... with my 8th grade teacher being the opposing view point...
she said she never felt so uncomfortable in her entire life.
he remembers her and the debate they had to this very day and always told my mom growing up that
'when im a teacher, im gonna get your kid! oh yes! im gonna get your kid!'
sure enough, he did ;)

glad he did. he became more of a mentor and friend than a teacher.

I saw an idjit just yesterday with major crack hanging out before he bothered to pull up his pants. In the middle of city street, on a cold, breezy day.

(Although it was pretty funny to watch my microbiology prof leaning over the bench with his grey undies and about an inch of crack for all us undergrads to laugh at.)

44. OK... this is the best reason, by far, to vote for him!
I hate to be nannish about fashion. I was a teen in the 80s, for Pete's sake, so I really have no room to talk, but this business about wearing your pants sagging down your ass is STUPID.

I keep hoping it passes before my son gets old enough to care. Now, maybe with Obama in the bully pulpit, it will FINALLY go the way of big hair.

46. I've tried to be tolerant and understanding. I really have.
I lived and wore: a studded-Lee jacket, fisted picks stuck in huge afros and naturals, marshmallow shoes, AJ Lester suits, bell-bottoms, flavored overalls, Pro-Keds, bleached jeans, jeri-curls, rabbit coats, boom boxes, mini skirts, maxi coats, etc.

But the baggie pants hanging down past your ass look has been around for the last 15 YEARS! I can't stand it anymore.
Kids waddling like ducks to keep the pants from falling to the floor. Heaven forbid you should be behind one trying to walk up the steps.

Please guys (especially the 25+ yr olds)...give it up already. 15 years is well outside the fad limit. Heck..bring back the zoot suits.

52. Jackson Hole is pretty far down in the hip fashion world,
but it the last few months I've started to see extreme sagging even here.

It does make it tough to get on a horse or run away from a grizzly, though, so I doubt it will gain wide acceptance. :-)
