Obama's Nevada State Director Dies

03 Nov 2008 12:05 pm
Terence Tolbert, Barack Obama's Nevada state director, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. He was 44, and a former senior aide to New York City schools chancellor Joel Klein and mayor Michael Bloomberg.

For this reason, the mood in Obama's campaign headquarters is more somber than it otherwise would be.

Bloomberg's office issued this statement:

"Last night, Terence Tolbert, who was a valued member of our Administration and had become a personal friend of mine, had a massive heart attack in Nevada where he was working on Senator Obama's campaign. Terence was not only somebody who was one of the most likeable people in the world, he was one of the most hardworking people in the world. He had great judgment and a great feel for people, and this really is a great tragedy. Our Administration will miss him, the City will miss him, the country will miss him, and all of our prayers go out to his wife Freida and his mother Carolyn. We'll announce the funeral arrangements when they're made, but this really is a tragedy and it puts things in perspective. One of the nice things about November 4th was going to be that Terence would come back to us. Now, sadly, he is never going to come back - but we will never forget him."

15. I hope he was not too busy to early vote.
That was the one, single consideration behind my voting early. As much as I love the tradition of lining up first thing Tuesday morning, I don't KNOW that I will be here Tuesday morning. Anything can happen.

My deepest condolences to his family.

27. This election has been very stressful to all of us Obama
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 01:29 PM by Sebass1271
supporters and paid staff.. We are putting our lives in line for him when we volunteer and work for him.. It has personally been very stressful for me.. i can't sleep at night..i have been in danger situations where i thought my live was in danger volunteering for him here in Florida.

One day while canvassing I encountered a guy screaming in my face and threatening me to beat me if i didn't leave the building. I confronted the guy and told him i was not leaving because last time i checked this was still a free country and i had all the right to be there.

I called the cops while he was following me and he saw me doing it - but i was shitting in my pants..

Iam so sorry for this loss.

RIP.

32. My condolences to his family.
It's crazy that this election has (and is) so stressful - as has been pointed out many times, if Obama had been white, the McCain campaign would have packed up and left a month ago. Instead, good men like Terence Tolbert has worked themselves literally to death to get Obama elected. I think all of us are incredibly greatful for what Mr. Tolbert has done, and have immense sympathies for his family and friends. He should be counted among those who gave their lives so that the United States of America truly is the Land of the Free.
