Report from the trenches: NH |
|
My good friend Tish just called. She's at an early voting precinct in Manchester. Interviewing voters. If their name is on her list of likely Dem voters, she crosses it off. Every 30-45 minutes one of the 'higher ups' collects her crossed off names to update the master computer list. Everyone who hasn't voted gets another phone call. She says this is happening all over the country. Talk about organization!
BTW, Tish is a Brit who immigrated here in the early 70s. I've known her since then. She's been a U.S. citizen for many years. I was at her swearing in ceremony. About a year ago she hosted an Obama open house at her home in Merrimack and THE MAN himself was there. I told her to expect an invitation to the inauguration. She says she's just a little fish, but I don't think so. She and her husband have worked their veddy proper English butts off for him. Obama won't forget those who helped in the beginning before he was the nominee.

Michael Whouley is an American Democratic Party political consultant who specializes in get out the vote operations. Whouley is President of the Dewey Square Group, a consulting firm that works for both political and corporate clients as lobbyists and campaign strategists.
Whouley was a key strategist for Bill Clinton, serving as his field director during the 1992 election. Following Clinton's inauguration, Whouley became a lobbyist on behalf of pro-North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) interests. During the 1996 election, Whouley served as director of Vice Presidential operations.
Whouley was a key strategist for both Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. Whouley helped jumpstart both Gore's and Kerry's comeback in the presidential primaries after they came close to being overtaken by Bill Bradley and Howard Dean respectively.
Whouley is regarded as one of the Democratic Party's best field strategists and as a result has earned the nickname "The Wizard". Despite this, he is fairly reclusive and very rarely does media interviews. He avoids reporters as much as possible.

One thing the Obama campaign has demonstrated is that there are plenty of smart and talented organizers in the Democratic Party, and not all of them are part of the Dewey Square clique.
