Just learned that my wife's lifelong evangelical Republican friend voted for Obama in VA!

Granted, she always leaned a little bit liberal socially but told me in 2000 that she could never vote Democrat because of the abortion issue. She's finally changed her tune though and crossed into the light. I couldn't be happier... things are really changing this time!

3. Obama is, as Colin Powell said, a transformational candidate.

7. Same story here
A good friend and former co-worker was a lifelong republican. She worked on Dole 96 and happily voted for Bush twice (bumper stickers and all). During the primaries, she told me she would consider voting for Hillary but would otherwise probably stick with her party. She was disappointed that Hillary lost, and was inclined to go to McCain. She started turning on McCain with the selection of Palin who she says represents everything that is wrong with the republican party (anti-intellectual etc) but she was concerned that Obama was "too liberal" and she loves McCain's bio. I kept working on her all through September and into October My jaw nearly hit the floor when she told me two weeks ago that she had mailed in her absentee ballot for Obama. What sealed the deal for her, of all things, were positive articles in The Economist on Obama's tax/fiscal plans. She lives in North Arlington.

Unrelated note. The Obama GOTV operation is up and running big time in NoVA. We received three live phone calls starting Friday night on behalf of Obama reminding us to vote. There was an Obama volunteer canvassing my sleepy cul-de-sac on Saturday working specific homes from a list. And today, there were a couple of high school students (Fairfax County public schools are off today and tomorrow) hanging Obama/Warner/Connolly voting reminders on front doors in my community with the address and hours for our polling place. The Republican GOTV effort – robocalls and the most repugnant political TV ad I've ever seen--dramatizing terrorists setting off a suitcase bomb with the Biden "they will test him" comments planning in the background. How low will these snakes go?

8. I talked to a Republican co-worker today who is either voting for Nader or staying home
He can't stand McCain (or Obama). At least he's not voting Republican (every vote or non-vote may matter here in Ohio)
