I can't decide which network to watch. |
|
I was thinking it would be either CBS or MSNBC, or else I'd flip channels all night and drive everyone in the room nuts. Now Ed Schultz says we should watch FOX to see all the long faces. CNN is having at least 12 hours of coverage. PBS will have 3 hours in prime time. They are thorough but can be plodding and dull, often going off into the weeds. I might watch MSNBC until CBS comes on.
I've made a list of coverage times. All times Eastern:
ABC--7:30-11 p.m. CBS--8 -11 p.m., break for local news, then 11:30-2 a.m. CNN--6 p.m.-2 a.m., 2-3 a.m. FOX--5-6 p.m., 6p.m.-2 a.m., 2 a.m.-5 a.m. MSNBC--5 p.m.-1 a.m., 1 a.m.-5 a.m. NBC--7 p.m.-2 a.m. PBS--9 p.m.-12.a.m.
Ack--it's like being at a dessert buffet and only being able to pick one. Help! What will you be watching?

"The low budget, art-house special will reunite the giants of fake news at The Daily Show studio and will be broadcast to a limited audience including anyone who has cable or is standing in view of MTV's 44 1/2 foot JumboTron in the heart of Times Square at 10p EST on Election Night." http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008/10/30/jon-stewart-and-stephen-colbert-to-join-forces-for-live-election-night-special/

I can tune multiple channels with my PC's TV Tuner card, so I'll probably be watching several channels at once.

4. Set your "favorites" button if you have one and just cycle through them all. |
|
I plan on mainly switching back and forth between CNN and MSNBC.

9. I'll be going to bed early, because my nerves will be shot |
|
I'll be recording the TDS/TCR special and the BBC America coverage, because they'll have a bizarrely eclectic lineup of panelists, including Christopher Hitchens, Larry Sabato, Karen Hughes, Terry Nelson, Jay McInerney, Richard "Toby Ziegler" Schiff, Ricky "David Brent" Gervais, Bill Bradley, John Bolton, and Gore Vidal.

10. This is a tough one!! |
|
You have many options. Here is how I break it out:
CBS - not the same without Dan Rather. I cannot support their station after the way they treated him.
FOX - if you are feeling the vendetta vibes, watch FOX. Nothing makes me smile like watching Britt Hume look even more like a hang dog basset hound.
CNN - too many self-rightous right wingers here for my tastes. They won't have the obvious solemn sadness that FOX will provide.
MSNBC - Chris and Keith are going to be openly gleeful. It will be fun to watch. Pat Buchanan will have a coniption fit on national TV. It will probably make youtube.
NBC and ABC - probably prett straightforward news reporting. NOt a lot of banter. Maybe worth watching if you feel like Mr. Spock and have no taste for emotion.
PBS - again, feeling smart? PBS is usually pretty straight with the information, offer a modicum of commentary, and overall just high brow intellectual coverage.

17. I've only recently forgiven CBS |
|
Out of the big three they seem the most left-friendly. They have some smart people on like Jeff Greenfield. I have not forgiven ABC for that Gibson/Stephy debate and won't watch them. NBC's Brokaw also makes me mad. But I have to have a look at MSNBC to see KO at least part of the time.
CNN is usually so frenetic with all their maps and charts all over the place so that you don't know what to look at first. Their coverage is good for on-the-scene stuff but isn't as thoughtful as MSNBC.
I might record the PBS crew to watch later--they are most likely to cover stuff others don't. I can watch one tuner and record on the other with our DishTV. Then I'll switch between CBS and MSNBC for live news.

25. I'm watching MSNBC cuz of KO and Chris and Rachel. |
|
I'm going to be planted in front of the tv from 5 pm on with only potty breaks and breaks to fix dinner (which I'll eat in front of the tv, something I NEVER do, at least for dinner).
I'm REALLY addicted so any channel that starts late, like at 7 pm, doesn't cut it for me.
Hubby is working at the polls so I'll have something kept warm for him for dinner when he gets home right after 8 pm.
This will be a night to savor for a loooong time!

Pizza and salad so far, and some wine. And anything festive I can think of adding to that. Don't want to miss any of this historical election.
