Hillary Clinton really came through. I didn't believe it would happen, but it did.
I've been active in Democratic politics for forty years.

I have never seen any defeated candidate go so far for a former opponent as has Hillary Clinton.

As we reach the finish line, I have nothing, but great admiration for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Great admiration, great respect and a sense of debt to her.

Hillary drove me crazy during the primaries and my posts here during that long period reflected that.

I didn't expect her to just continue to be like the energizer bunny for Barack and Joe, but she did.

Here's my heartfelt gratitude to Hillary Clinton who even today is still out campaigning for our great Barack Obama.

She did it for the team. Thanks, Hillary.

1. This whole cycle has been an emotion mess.
I think the day she and Barack set foot on that stage in Unity, NH .... it's was like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders.

I love you Hillary. I love you Barack.

157. She is WAY more than that. I remember when reagan was such a sore loser after
he couldn't wrestle the nomination away from Gerald Ford (there was even talk about a frickin' "co-presidency") that he wouldn't help Ford on the campaign trail. Took his ball and went home. And then he got to work immediately on his own run for 1980 - with regular radio commentaries that kept his voice and his name and his "ideas" in the front lines with the public. ASSHOLE. Hillary is the exact opposite of that. Surely even those who didn't like her must concede this. She was all in for Obama after she lost in the primaries, and that took a TREMENDOUS amount of strength, courage, and class. Imagine the emotions she had to deal with, the disappointment, heartbreak, maybe even depression. Hell, she almost lost it in public before New Hampshire.

I always did like her. I just liked Obama a wee bit better in a strictly political strategic sense. I figured she'd have more baggage to deal with from the bad guys than Obama would. I always admired her. Ever more now. She's a national treasure. AND her brains! That goes DOUBLE for her towering intellect. We need her. BUT BADLY!!! sarah palin is unworthy to touch the hem of her garment.

She could have been far, far tougher. She was threading a needle, and she did it just right. If she'd been as soft and easy as the rest of the field, Obama wouldn't have had the training he needing.

She helped prep O for the real fight ahead. He emerged a far stronger candidate -- better prepared, better at debating, better at everything he needed to improve on. In large part thanks to Hillary and even to Bill.

I think she said at one point that she wouldn't have as much time to campaign for him if she had to spend more time raising money to pay off debt, but that's very different from threatening not to support him. I don't even know how much he has raised to pay off her debts, but I know she has raised $10 million for him. Why the hell are you being so divisive at this point?

Hillary isn't going to throw everything she has worked for and not support Obama. From what I understand he raised a few hundred thousand for her while she raised 10 million for him. She is still in debt and it's against the regulations for him to directly pay down her debt.

Also, she is ten million times bigger than some of her supporters. One of the great things about this election is that we ran some people out of our party who had no business being in it and will win big anyway. But enough about them. I'm so glad this place is more friendly, appreciative and unified than it was back in April/May.

What we had was an embarrassment of riches, and Hillary and Bill's performance on Obama's behalf are just another indication of that. Joe Biden is more evidence of that. And Bill Richardson, too, for that matter.

This was a fantastic election cycle.

She adopted some despicable campaign tactics in her scorched earth efforts to win at all costs. Despicable tactics my ASS!!! Hillary was the candidate that millions of us wanted. We are now voting for Obama if nothing else because we prefer a Democrat in the WH over a Republican. Some came around more grudgingly than others, but the majority of Hillary supporters will vote for Obama tomorrow.

On the other hand, that doesn't mean that we will stand by if the fur starts flying again and people start their attacks against her anew.

I'm a NYer and I'll work to defeat her - however futile the effort may be - should she have a Primary opponent next go-round. Nor will I pull a lever for her - I'll never vote for any R, but I can skip the line. Hillary has done exactly what is most politically expedient for her since her Primary loss. I give her no credit at all for it. There hasn't been more than a day or so since I last read right here on this site of some of her words being used in a McCain ad.

68. I hope he reciprocates by nominating her for SCOTUS
I've felt for a long time that Hillary would be a great S.C. Justice. (Especially Chief Justice!)

She's young enough and progressive enough (compared to the rest of the Court) that she would be able to influence this country for the better for a VERY long time. And, really, she'd have more power than if she were a Senator -- or, arguably, POTUS. (Taft, the only person to ever serve as both POTUS and Chief Justice of SCOTUS, famously said that he didn't even remember that he ever was President after he had served on the high court.) It would be a great place for her to continue her fight to preserve and strengthen rights for women and children.

125. Nice picture and I agree with your thoughts.
I have to think Hillary Clinton is just as horrified by the thought of a McCain presidency as we are.

I'm still thinking senate majority leader....

On the eve of a big Democratic victory, the same brain-dead shit-stirrers just can't let go.

I for one will never forget what happened here or the names I was called. It sucked away much of my passion for the election and most of the joy. Fortunately I can separate Obama from those awful, hateful people, but I will never feel at home here like I once did. Some truly wonderful people keep me coming back.

Just the honest truth.

173. Ditto, Marrah_G
I have take tomorrow as a vacation day, and will be holding some signs at my polling place for most of the day. i will be giving some rides to the polls as well. I have done phone banking and visibilities for Presi...I mean...Senator Obama.

But much of the joy I may have felt has been dampened because of they way we were treated here. Knowing there are truly good DEMOCRATS....(not just "my way is the only way and 'F' everyone who disagrees with me" democrats)....still here keep me coming back, but the previous enthusiasm I had is gone. Maybe some day we'll find it again.

For now, it will suffice to look forward to 1/20/09. 78 DAYS TO GO! But who's counting?

I can't wait until tomorrow so that this damn election is finally over. Hopefully, we won't have another election where the campaigning starts almost two years before election day. It's overkill and it frays the nerves of everyone involved.

127. Aside from style, they have incredibly similiar politics
I just never quite understood the "love one, hate the other" dynamic. Sure, they ran a really tough primary season, and partly because they were so close on most issues, it had to get personal. But geez, I really don't expect to have a beer with any president and from a policy standpoint, I'd have been jazzed about either of them. I'd prefer someone a bit more liberal than both, but at this point in time, I'll take what can win.

They aren't any fun that way. We all have strong feelings about politics, that's why we're here, but punctuating your opinion with name-calling is really stupid. It's a purposeful buzzkill; you use it as a weapon. I know because I used to do the same thing when I fought the Clintons' battles. I don't know what it is about them. But I hate that shit. That's what this election is all about. Ugly politics is so over. You can't promote intraparty unity when you treat people disrespectfully. That's my problem with the Clintons. They disrespected Obama and he deserved better. I think we all deserve better. It's against DU rules to call each other names. Obama has inspired in me being more thoughtful about, well, everything. Please pitch in here and knock it off. Thank you.

edited to add ... Peace. On this historic night, peace.

154. If we win in a huge 350+ landslide I think our long primary may have defied history and helped us
History often shows that the party with a long drawn out primary battle loses the election. It's pretty much always happens in presidential politics, and ours was drawn out about as long as possible without it going to the convention.

At the time I was scared as hell that we were screwing ourselves over and blowing our chances in 08, but now, it's possible that all of the new registered democrats we got from the long primary (and all the new voters who registered just from it) could really help redefine the political landscape this election.

I think Georgia is a great example, a lot of people say it's Obama's efforts to register so many new voters that have put the incumbent republican senator (I forget his name at the moment) in jeopardy.

On election day we'll see if that prediction holds, things look good for us now.

170. There was never any chance that the extended primary battle wouldn't be a huge benefit
The historical examples weren't relevant in the slightest.

It's more than slightly amusing that the posters claiming Hillary would be losing to McCain are recognized as the same ones who thought the long primary would be terrible for Obama's chances.

to reckon with a formidable opponant! By forcing the primary to go as long as it did it allowed Obama's team to refine it's methods and tactics.

175. We need to unite as a party, if divided in any way we will lose it all
and then why did we win the White House if we fall on our own sword of pride. Let it go and look forward to what is about to happen with a Democrat in the WH working with a Democratic Congress. Think of all the good that can be done if they all work together undivided by the ugly areas of this past election. We must look forward not backwards for real change to happen if and when Obama takes command of this nation ( I pray he does ).

184. The Democratic party has never been united.
It just has the patina of unity at the moment because the main goal is to get rid of the Republicans in power. It'll be business as usual in January.

To quote the great Will Rogers:

"I do not belong to any organized party. I'm a Democrat."
