My Eyes Teared Up When I Heard The News. But I'm Convinced Toots Has Left Us For A Greater Purpose.
As soon as I heard the breaking news that she died come over the radio on my way home just now, my eyes teared up a bit. I wanted that great woman so badly to live to see the historic moment her son will take part in tomorrow. I was quite saddened to learn that will no longer be the case.

But then I started thinking that she was called upon to serve a greater purpose. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be with Obama tomorrow and be beaming down upon him from above at his historical moment. But now, she will be with all of us as well. That is this great woman's purpose now, as she was taken from this earth on election eve.

She will be with us all tomorrow. She will be shining down from the heavens and giving strength to those tired and weary voters who will have to endure such long lines tomorrow. She will be shining down from the heavens and giving continued inspiration and purpose to all those who will be hitting the ground tomorrow in the GOTV effort. She will help push the volunteers forward and keep them focused, strong, motivated and filled with purpose.

She is shining down on us all now and will be there with all of us tomorrow. Of this I am convinced. It is a tragedy that she left us a few days early, but she has left us for a greater purpose. I firmly believe she will be with him tomorrow. She'll know. She'll know and she'll smile down upon us all.

God bless ya Toots. God bless ya Obama. Let's do this thing.

1. She gets to watch the election from a front-row seat......

Getting commentary from Tim Russert and humor from George Carlin.

2. I had the same reaction
I'm just in tears here at my office and so are a lot of other people.

Karma works in strange ways. Maybe her going was essential to his winning. Who knows? I can only imagine how heartbroken he must be, and Michelle and the girls too. Sad beyond words.

14. I kept thinking - why couldn't she have lived til at least Wednesday?
Well, hell. For whatever it's worth, my mom died two years ago Saturday. Just before the midterm elections. And we all know what happened. And the day of her funeral Mass, the news broke that rumsfeld had resigned. It happened just before we left for church. I brought the news to the friends and family members hanging around outside the church waiting to go inside for the start of the services. And as somber as the mood was, it picked up substantially. People were smiling and nodding and some were high-fiving each other. I heard several of them say it was Mom Upstairs, obviously having whispered in Somebody's ear and sending us a little greeting from the Great Beyond.

A very spiritual and psychic friend of mine said that this period in the past few days is the time when many people pass over, because of the All Saints/All Souls observances and the fact that there's just SO MUCH prayer being generated everywhere around the world. Makes for an easy passage, evidently. Apparently, the current's really running on high Upstairs and all the windows and doors up there are wide open and the transition is much less difficult.

Toot - help us win one for your grandson, 'eh?

15. I'm glad he got to see her when he did
I didn't get the chance to visit my grandmother or grandfather before they died. I'm glad Obama put his campaigning aside and went to see her before she passed away.

Now let's bring it home for her, and for everyone who didn't make it to see this great moment in history.

how proud she is of him, not realizing right away that everyone else knows who is his and loves him too.

20. Belief system?
I'd like to send a nice card to the Obamas, but I'm unsure of the appropriate language. Was Toots a Christian, atheist like her daughter, or other? I just don't want to say "prayers, God, etc." if that would have offended her. Does anyone know?

21. They are Christians, so anything that you would normally chose
for Christians would be appropriate.

22. I know the Obamas
are devout Christians, but I didn't know about Ms. Dunham. Thanks for clearing this up. Couldn't find anything on the internet identifying her belief system.
