I need a drink.
Toot passing away.

The on-going vile Republican attacks.

Fear of why the hell McCain thinks he has a shot in PA and what that means for our election tomorrow.

In twelve hours I will be waking up to go get in line to cast my ballot for Barack Obama.

I should be happy tonight, but I'm just fucking depressed.

Some people like to point out how much Barack Obama has been given in life (insinuating that much has been *gifted* to him); education at our nation's top schools, the opportunity to run for President so early in his career. But for as much as has been given to him, he has suffered. The family he grew up with almost entirely gone. Pundits exclaim with glee that he's some kind of "other" because of his race. An entire party is banking their hopes that this nation won't see past his skin color. What has this man ever done to warrant this abuse? Just have the audacity to 'govern while black'? He is a good and decent man, even his detractors who are to eager to smear him admit that.

Ugh. Election 2008, just die goddamn you.

7:00 tomorrow morning cannot come early enough.

Thanks for letting me rant. I think I'll go see about that drink now.

1. With what he has been through
and how he has handled it, I can't help but think how much more of a level headed a president he will be than the shrub we have or the loose cannon running against him.

3. I'm with you.
The frayed political nerves are bad enough, but the frayed emotional nerves sap any kind of reserve you normally have.

Add to that the strained relationships and social tension we're all feeling -- firsthand or just from reading about it -- and you've got a heavy stew of psychological grindstones relentlessly working.

Enjoy your drink. I've got a quick walk to the post office before I'll be back to join you in hoisting one. My first will be for Toot.

6. I'll take a shot of whiskey please, bartender.
I share many of your same feelings about tonight. I just want this election to be OVER, already! It's been exhausting.

But hang in there and keep your chin up. It's almost over. :pals:

10. Hi neighbor!
:hi:

If I see ONE MORE snarky McCain ad on KYW-3 I'm going to lose my ever-loving mind. I'll be hoisting a couple after work myself... one for Toot, and one for OUR FUTURE!!!!

GOBAMA!!! :applause:

18. Just saw the Rev. Wright ad for the first time...
Also heard not one but two stories, from different people, of voter suppression tactics happening in Philly. "Democrats Vote on Wednesday" and "Your Polling Place Has Changed" flyers being handed out.

*sigh*

The good news? I home now and can start on that bottle of wine that's been on my mind. And the election is ALL anyone is talking about here.

11. I have to say, I could use one myself.
However, my daughter has swim team in half an hour, and in an hour I am conducting a job interview. That glass of cognac will have to wait until later.

I'm wound up so tight it's a wonder I haven't snapped.

12. I take way to much medication so I can't drink. I can't concentrate
on a book, either. I'm on a diet so I can't eat.

At this point, thank God I fell off the wagon and am back to sneaking a few cigarettes a day. Otherwise I'd be an all-out bitch. And I fucking DARE anybody to call me to task for calling myself that.

Thank God for DU, where I can vent.

20. Dude, so far, I've had 1.5 Mothership Wit's and 1 Paulaner
Oktoberfest Marzen. I have more of those out in the garage and some Red Stripe too. Just don't tell my husband that we drank it all. It's supposed to be for him when he comes home from Iraq.

And then some, to honor your husband's return from the war.

Seriously. :patriot:

His grandma dying, the hateful comments from Repukes, even now. Ugh, just ugh.... get me off this planet, I cannot handle one ounce more of the ugliness that lives in some ppl.

Can't have a drink until after class tonight in about 5 hrs or so.

Drink one for me, will you?

19. Anyone else having a hard time processing that his Grandma died today?
I'm having a hard time realizing this. Worked about 6 hours today for GOTV, still flying high here on that.

Rest in Peace, Toot.

21. I am.
I was talking with a friend about this tonight. And we decided that right now is like that point in every Hollywood movie where everything has gone wrong and that happy ending, though so close, looks in serious doubt.

Toot dying the day before the election is too surreal. Like something that only happens in the movies.

23. Thank you all for your thoughtful replies.
I've now got a glass of my favorite wine and Cleo the Leo's pot pie recipe baking in the oven and, well, the world is already a bit better.

The news about Toot today was really tough. So, thanks again all.
