:wow:

If you don't know Plano, it's the reddest part of this red state. Maybe Texas is closer than they think?

8. That's what I was thinking
I used to work there and live in Richardson 10 years ago. That area is so ruby red that my mom was kicked out of Sam the Sham Johnson's office just because she wasn't a repuke (she was independent).

26. Let me tell ya what I've heard about HIM (throw in "allegedly" where needed)
A lady I canvassed with the other week said that she had attended a church function a while back...the other attendees were all repukes. One of them claimed she had called Pelosi's CELL phone...when asked HOW she got the number, repuke lady responded "FROM SAM JOHNSON". Whoever answered the cell phone asked the TX repuke lady if she lived in California. The lady said no, the person said "well, you are not a constituent"..repuke lady allegedly said " Yes, I am...I live in the United States".
Maybe repuke lady was lying..or maybe not. If not, WTF is he doing giving out cell numbers??????

7. My very right wing (or so I thought) nephew and brother in law live there
They voted straight Democratic ticket and were actually happy to do so. The rest of my Plano/metroplex area family are lifetime Democrats, these two were the holdouts.

It was Palin for them nationally, but they did not cast one state or local vote for the rethughs this time. That is a big deal I promise!

Economy, ending Iraq are their priorities.

Pleasantly stunned.

Well done for your daughter's middle school!!! My nephew I am talking about who saw the light here grew up K-12 in that school system!

Paul

11. Woo-hooo!! Plano repukes are already pissed...
And scared. Election judges at the polls aren't going to know what hit them tomorrow. Lot of Dems took the class to be poll watchers and WILL/ARE/HAVE BEEN be breathing down their necks to keep shit from happening at the polls. At the very least, maybe we can rid ourselves of Sam Johnson! I think TX will be closer than people are thinking. Because, as you said, if this is happening in our repuke red county, what the hell will happen in the REST of the state??

I signed up to be a poll greeter in my precinct for tomorrow.

"Reports detail Collin County Early Voting problems"

and:

11/02/08
10:22:12 pm

219,694 (52%) of Collin County's registered voters cast ballots during the early voting period that ended Friday. The final numbers were:

211,637 early voters
8,057 mail in ballots

Of those who've voted,

27.5% are registered Democrats
19.6% are registered Republicans
52.9% did not vote in a primary

In a shift from the normal Collin County voting pattern, the early vote turnout of registered Democrats is keeping pace with the Republicans. In most Collin County elections, Republicans tend to vote early and democrats later on election day. Of those who voted in the primary:

74.3% of those who voted in the Democratic Primary have already voted
74.5% of those who voted in the Republican Primary have already voted.

It looks like the county will have somewhere near a 75% turnout. 2/3's of those voters have already cast their ballots.

12. Wow!!! Plano?
It must be much different there than I remember. The middle school grades of my son's school voted 186 to 6 for Obama, but we're in Portland, so that wasn't too surprising.

16. Very different
Unscientific here I know..but you know that 7-11 blue/red cup poll going on?? Each time I stop by our local 7-11's the blue cup stack is half the size of the red...meaning that people are buying the blue ones left and right. In Plano!!!
Voter registration drive was HUGE here..between that and the newly energized not-so-new Dems, Plano/Collin County repukes are a little worried.

And so encouraging to think that such a deep red portion of a red state could be going blue.

Colin county (where Plano is located) is the wealthiest county in the state and the 23rd wealthiest in the US.

According to a 2006 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $77,038, and the median income for a family was $106,335.

Plano was ranked the most affluent city in the United States with the lowest poverty rate of 6.3% for a city with a population exceeding 250,000. Its neighbor, Frisco, was ranked the richest city for the population of under 250,000 in the United States with a 2.7% poverty rate. Plano also has the highest median income in the nation at $71,000.<8>

I use to live in Plano before moving here to Highland Park. We're trying hard to break 50% here but it's going to be hard. However, I recently talked to a neighbor who lost several million in the market and blames Bush. He was glad to pay more in taxes if it meant keeping his retirement fund.
