Surprise! Surprise! Our stupid area paper endorsed mccain today.
When Obama wins tomorrow, and I pray he does, I hope everyone writes the editors nasty letters telling them what they think of them. I can't because of someone close to me that works there.

Headline "Our choice: John McCain deserves your vote"

<snip>

We face a choice between:

l An inexperienced politician who rocketed to fame after a celebrated soliloquy at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

l A Vietnam War hero who has devoted his adult life to public service in the military and as an independent-minded statesman.

:puke:

1. Why bother
Isn't the point of an endorsement to help influence the vote and convince people to vote for your candidate. Seems pointless to wait this long...most people have already made up their mind.

2. Yeah I saw that. I thought they would. The SI is definitely a right wing rag. They carry Ann
Coulter in their OP section for chrsts sakes. Only the extreme of the extreme still carries that slime. And it was SI that single handidly tried to take out Poshard. It's sad, but everything I read from that paper is taken with a grain of salt.

3. Their editorial staff is very right wing
but a lot of people that work in their newsroom is not. Like everything else, people need jobs and have to take work where they can find it. Once they get experience they can look for work elsewhere, but.......

In 2004, three of their news people came to interview Obama at his SI headquarters. I was working that day and I told them what I thought of their paper. They told me what I just told you, not everyone at the paper was a neo-con. They were liberal and they have moved on to other papers in other places. The circle of life here in SI, just do what you can to get experience so you can get out of here.

6. Corporate-ade.
Their editor is appointed by the corporation that owns them, and the orders come from far away. This area is red enough with Jackson County being the bluest of any of them, and even that is not like it use to be due to the students at the university (SIU) being the generation that came of age after 9/11 and during the nationism that followed. I call them the bush babies, and while some of them are liberal far more of them are not. It will be interesting to see if Jackson is as blue as it was four years ago, or if the incoming students have created a lighter shade of blue.

Thank God for Chicago!!

7. Sounds like they need to open their fooking eyes and
ears or they really shouldn't be allowed outside alone.

9. Just remember that this is Illinois and they endorsed him
for senator in 2004, but then their other choice was looney con Keyes.

I just wish we had our old paper back and not this thing that is owned and ran by the corporate bigwigs. We need to regulate the newspapers again where there cannot be so many papers owned by so few.

8. Theme #41: Obama is merely "eloquent".

12. I like this quote from the article.
"McCain is better on the economy, too."

Could they be any more obvious. Talking points and lies. Same old, same old.
