New Troopergate Report to be Released 7:30 p.m. EST Tonight
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 07:13 PM by Bubbha Jo
Alaska investigator to release Troopergate report

Timothy Petumenos, an independent investigator hired by the Alaska Personnel Board, says he will release the report during a news conference 7:30 p.m. EST Monday.

A separate legislative panel earlier found that Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, abused her office by allowing her husband and other staffers to pressure the public safety commissioner to fire a state trooper who went through a nasty divorce from Palin's sister. She fired the commissioner, but denies it had anything to do with the trooper

Has anyone heard any report of what might be in the release?

1. Excellent.
I haven't a clue as to what the report will say. Petumenos has been leak-free. This is all that's on the Anchorage Daily News website. http://www.adn.com/palin/story/577271.html

A report detailing whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power by firing public safety commissioner Walt Monegan will be released this afternoon.Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos, hired by the Alaska Personnel Board as an independent investigator, says he will release the report during a news conference starting at 3:30 p.m.

He said the report would cover Monegan's firing as well as a separate complaint from Anchorage activist Andree McLeod alleging that state hiring practices were circumvented for a Palin supporter.

The three-member board met earlier this afternoon and agreed to release the report.

A separate legislative panel earlier found that Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, abused her office by allowing her husband and other staffers to pressure the public safety commissioner to fire a state trooper who went through a nasty divorce from Palin's sister. That report was written by retired prosecutor Steve Branchflower, who was hired to investigate the matter by the Legislative Council.

Palin fired the commissioner in July but denies it had anything to do with the trooper.

I'll monitor the ADN site for updates.

3. Meh. It won't matter at this point.
Her approval ratings are already in the toilet. Anyone stupid enough to support her at this point will be unfazed.

It's going to have the same impact as the Reverend Wright commercials; we already know about Wright, and those who will be swayed by such silliness have been swayed by all the other "scary" shit.

4. Who cares now? Too late.
Even if that report said that Palin was the bestest, most law-abiding governor in the history of the world, no one would care.

10. It may not matter in this election
but it will certainly matter when Sarah comes back to Alaska. There has been quite a bit of talk of a recall, and if this report goes against her, it's just one more nail in the coffin.

5. Mudflats site coverage of the soon to be released report

http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/11/03/troopergate-ii-report-to-be-released-at-330-election-eve/

Independent Investigator Tim Petumenos, who was hired by the Personnel Board just said he will release his troopergate report at 3:30 p.m. today. This is the second report, following on the heels of a Legisltative Investigation whose report last month indicated that Palin had abused her power in the firing of former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan.

Kyle Hopkins from the Anchorage Daily News is on the scene.

He said the report would cover Gov. Sarah Palin’s firing of Walt Monegan as well as a separate complaint from Anchorage activist Andree McLeod alleging alleges that state hiring practices were circumvented for a Palin supporter.

Petumenos has two staff members with him, and each has a thick, yellow-bound document on their lap. I should note that when I called
Personnel Board chair Debra English before the meeting to ask about
the Palin investigation, she didn’t say anything but recommended
showing up.

15. Wrong. It found that she violated the law when she tried to place pressure
on Monegan to fire Wooten.

On the other hand, she was within her rights and did not break the law when SHE fired Monegan.

11. Odd timing.
I think this is the Alaska Personnel Board is the one appointed by the governor. Probably this report will be favorable to her for that reason. In any case, it won't matter.

16. The board was appointed by her, but then they hired an independent prosecutor,
who happens to be a Democrat, to carry out the investigation.

So this might be more interesting than you think.
