If It Is, Indeed, A Landslide, We'll Know Well Before The Polls Close
If the election is looking like an utter domination by Obama, I think we'll see this information leaked out in the media well before the polls close tomorrow. Someone from inside one of the two campaigns will leak the info to someone, who will post it online, Druge will run with it, and everyone online will be talking about it.

And there's no way the media will be able to ignore it.

If it's a landslide, we'll know it.

In this day and age, there's no way they can keep that information from getting out.

7. I'm with you
I don't want any person in another time zone to forego voting. We need EVERY vote, for Obama and the down-ticket candidates. I'll happily wait until after the West Coast votes. (Alaska and Hawaii, sorry, but I can't wait *that* long.)

5. Precautions have been taken to prevent leakage of the exit polls
The "talent" at the news networks are not informed of the first results until 5PM. The first round of results should be released shortly after that. Each network has a team of statisticians, political scientists and pollsters at their decision desks who are kept isolated from the world. No internet, and their cell phones and Blackberries are all confiscated.

This system was used for the first time in 2006, and there were no leaks.

6. 2004
I will forever remember a friend of mine calling at around 6:45 to report that Kerry was a lock, that the exit polls had him winning Florida and Ohio and that was the ball game.
Didn't quite work out.

9. I don't think we'll know much until the polls start to close
I saw on the news that around noon, it will become clear which way things are going but they'll stay quiet until voting is done. I think that's for the best too.

10. I hope not, because we need people to vote.
If they see on TV that it's "in the bag," they might stay home.

11. the media people with information on the exit polls will be in lockdown
until after the polls close. And I would guess that with line-ups predicted to be so long some polls will not close till very late. It will be a long and wonderful night.

12. don't believe a word of it.........
I recall four years ago the folks at Kerry headquarters were giddy here because exit polling data had been leaked and it showed Kerry winning PA 60-40. I went home relaxed, thinking Kerry was going to win the country easily. He barely won PA and of course we know how it went nationally.
