Palin Defends Hank Williams, Jr. After He Says, “Obama’s Not Real Crazy About” The National Anthem
Palin Defends Hank Williams, Jr. After He Says, “Obama’s Not Real Crazy About” The National Anthem
Posted by Scott Conroy| 1

(CBS)From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) - At a Sarah Palin rally here tonight, country music star Hank Williams, Jr. took the stage to sing the national anthem, as he has done at Palin events across the country for weeks. But this time, the singer decided to share his personal views about Barack Obama with the crowd.

“You know, I’m usually at ‘Monday Night Football' tonight, but Colorado, this is a lot more important tonight,” Williams, Jr. said. “Join me now in our national—you know, that song that, uh, Mr. Obama’s not real crazy about, we’re singing it right now.”

The crowd cheered, and Williams, Jr. sang the national anthem. The country singer then went into an ode he penned about the Republican presidential ticket, a song called “McCain/Palin Tradition,” which has lyrics referring to Palin as a “good lookin’ dish.”

Palin then stepped up to the microphone and defended Williams Jr.’s right to free speech.

"We want to take a minute here to thank Hank Williams Jr.,” Palin said. “Over the past couple of months he has traveled with us. He and his most beautiful family stops all along the way this campaign trail. Now this is the last rally that we get to do together, and he's been just a great inspiration—never one to hide his opinion or be afraid to share it. Hey, he exercises those First Amendment rights. We love him! Yes. So we want to thank Hank and we are going to see him tomorrow night on the other side of victory, my friend."

Though she defended Williams Jr.’s right to free speech, she said nothing to the crowd to disabuse the crooner’s notion that Obama isn’t fond of the national anthem.

26. Exactly.
Without Sr, Bocephus would've never gotten a record deal.

Do you know that Willie Nelson wrote "Crazy", "Night Life", and "Hello Walls" in less than a week?

He wasn't the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree BEFORE the accident. Was probably even less so afterward.

25. This is easy to explain
This is the culture of the Conservative. You hear it on Faux, right wing rags and on AM hate radio. They rarely say anything substantive about why their point of view is a good choice. At this point, their entire political paradigm if you will is to wave a flag and thump a bible.

One thing they do is define those who don’t agree with them. Communist, traitor, hates America, terrorist. Just a bunch of vitriolic code words that really-to be honest-can’t be argued.

If I come to your house right now and I say, “you hate America”, how can you prove YOU DON’T hate it? Maybe you served in the war and carry the flag proudly. I could then just say, “you only served in war to advance your leftist ideals and to hide the fact you really hate America.”

Further, that injury you suffered was self-inflicted proving further the great lengths you’ll go to destroy America.

Now I hadn’t served in any wars, but by God I supported them all and because you dare to question the integrity of my way of life…’freedom’, god, guns, guts, capitalism you are essentially an enemy of the state and anything I say is disprovable.

As someone said up thread, Hank Jr. would never have even got a record contract if it wasn't for his famous father.

Hank Jr., Joe the phony plumber and Sarah the liar; a nice trio of losers McCain's got backing him.

34. Hank the Stank fits right in with their base...
I seem to recall an incident in a Louisiana bar 10-15 years ago during which the patrons started laughing derisively at the good ol' boy because he was too drunk to play or sing coherently. Hank took offense and stalked off the stage and returned brandishing a shotgun, which apparently he discharged into the ceiling.

Sounds like "tarrism" to me. What's Palin doin' palin' 'round with tarrsts?
