Early voters turned away | VIDEO

Vanderburgh County elections officials turned away a line of would-be early voters that stretched the length of the Civic Center's second floor today when the clock struck noon.

Early voting began at 8 a.m. at the Election Office in Room 214 of the Civic Center, but County Clerk Susan Kirk said state law left her no option but to close the doors at noon.

Kirk cited Indiana Code 3-11-10-26, Section C of which states, "The voter may vote before the board not more than 29 days nor later than noon on the day before election day."
