**** The "I Was Wrong & The Obama Campaign Was Right" Confession Thread ****
On the night before this historic election, where Barack Obama seems poised to win the race for the Presidency...

Our nerves are shot, we're wary, we're nervous and some of us are sure there's a fluke somewhere.

So as a reminder of just how good the Obama campaign has been and as a reminder of how well they've planned, here's a challenge:

List One Occasion Where You Were Convinced Obama and His Campaign Needed to Take An Action & They Didn't Follow Your Advice....

And You Now Admit They Were Right.

I'll go first...

I was convinced that the only way Obama could unite the party was if he chose Hillary as his VP.

I was wrong.

The party is united now thanks to Obama's strong performance, his compelling policies AND with a big assist from Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

1. This is a fallacious appeal ...
Just because the campaign may have been successful doesnt mean they would not have been MORE successful if they had followed said advice ....

Silly thread ....

4. But it does mean that disaster wasn't caused by not following the advice...
The point being that the Obama campaign has made prudent choices.

Thanks for chiming in on this "silly" thread.

11. The great thing is...
If you don't want to participate, you don't have to!

Isn't that amazing? Allowing others to have a discussion that they're interested in. So much like freedom.

17. It should be apparent by now ....
That I am engaged ....

The premise of your assertion is fallacious at it's core, hence, it cannot reveal truth .... Faulty premises result in faulty conclusions ... SOMEBODY has to say it ....

It seems more an attempt at indirect triumphalism than a revelatory exercise ....

21. Actually, I disagree.
My premise doesn't suggest that we were wrong on EVERY occasion when the campaign made an alternate choice.

In fact, my premise only challenges us to come up with one such occasion.

And if the thinking was "if the Obama campaign doesn't do X, then they'll be severely damaged" then I think we can absolutely assess in retrospect whether that was true when they didn't do X.

Most ironically, in trying to assert that my post is an "all or nothing/right or wrong in every instance" venture, you've fallen into that trap yourself.

I've only asked people to participate IF they've got a scenario to add. If they don't, they can say so.

You're the one claiming that there's no validity to anyone else's positive submissions to this thread. Because they don't fit your binary definition of "truth".

Too bad.

You were smarter than most, LOL.
I know we all love to quarterback but I've been so impressed with how disciplined the campaign has been. Focused and consistent.

19. Okay, you and me are like ***this***
I really, really had a hard time with his "laid back", slow to respond nature.

But damn, if eventually, I didn't get it.

Most people's first, rash move is not well thought out. Barack's moves are.

My last freak out was around the time of the Georgia conflict. I was annoyed that McCain was out with a press conference first.

Barack's response was better.

14. I'm a black guy and I gotta admit...
I had some doubts early on. But right after Super Tuesday I promised myself that I would stop letting those doubts seep in.

If he wins tomorrow, so many people's assumptions about this country will be up-ended.

THe only thing I didn't figure on was that the media would prove itself to be as obsessed with his race as they would be.

16. I've been surprised about that, too. I thought they'd have more shame - quite honestly.
Or I should say more discretion.

I guess they decided to just get more black talking heads so it would "allow" them to go "there".

CNN, in particular, has bothered me on this point.

Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 09:49 PM by Warren Stupidity
turns out that McCain manages to do that to himself pretty well all on his own, and when he stops gasping for a bit That Woman manages to stick one of her 4" heels up his butt. Like who knew?

24. I plumped for Obama in Aug 07, so I'm feeling pretty smug right now
Not to toot my own predictive powers or anything, but everything has turned pretty much exactly as I'd hoped along the way. I've been very impressed with both Obama and Axelrod since the get-go and every time I've thought 'I wish they'd do/say this...' it's magically happened within a short period.

Which, by the way, is very far from how it usually goes with my election-watching. Supporting Obama has been remarkably stress-free, which gives me great hopes for his presidency.

28. On a nostalgic note
What made me decide was the thing about 'invading Pakistan' - you remember when everyone said that going after bin Laden in Pakistan would be so crazy and dangerous etc. If he had backpedalled or tried to explain it away I would probably have thought 'next time...' and gone for Clinton (with big reservations) or Edwards (without much optimism). The fact that he stuck to his argument without getting flustered or defensive was what convinced me that he not only had the right ideas, but the backbone and political skills to see them through.

I'm looking forward to collecting on a small bet I made with my Dad a couple of months after that :-)

His sticking up for illegal immigrants on the issue of driving licenses also made me very happy. I hate immigrant bashing and I was surprised and pleased to see him take such a political risk.
